Nurse News
Scoliosis
Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine. It can be detected by a simple examination of the back.
The normal spine has three curves – one in the neck, on in the upper back and one in the lower back. These curves can be seen from the side, but when you look from behind the spine should appear straight. If the spine has a sideways curve, this is scoliosis.
An information leaflet about Scoliosis will be distributed to all year 6 students in term 4. Please read through the information provided and check your child for scoliosis as described in the leaflet.
If you have any concerns, please contact your General Practitioner or Community Health Nurse, Jane Skoll 9390 2289.
Colour Blindness
Colour blindness means that a person cannot distinguish some colours or see the colours differently to other people. Very few people who are colour blind are ‘blind’ to all colours. Commonly, the colours seen differently are greens, yellows, oranges and reds.
An information leaflet on colour blindness will be distributed to all Pre Primary and year 6 students in term 4.Please take the time to read the pamphlet.
For more information and see the Colour Blind Awareness and Support Group via the link below.

If you have any concerns, in any year group regarding colour vision please consult with your GP as testing can be performed by some general practitioners, eye specialists or optometrists.

Chaplain Chatter
Hi everyone and what a beautiful weekend it was, but busy!
Geoffrey Chaucer in the 1300's, over 700 hundred years ago said that, "Time and tide wait for no-one." Sure enough. It hasn't. He passed away in October of the year 1400 and time has kept going and here we are.
My question is then, for the next 15 minutes what would you like to listen to? Listen to some soothing music, the wind going through the trees, a water fall, it might be watching the sun set while the world grows quiet?
Our lives are so busy, time flying past, we really need down time, just to be. Some self-care. Take 15 minutes today, tomorrow and the next day. Time isn't going to wait for you, try to enjoy it every day. Food for thought.
Fathering Project
As part of The Fathering Project involvement with your school, I will be including helpful tips and ideas for all fathers and father-figures. I hope these tips will help, inspire and encourage all fathers and father-figures to be the best that they can be, as all fathers and father-figures are critically important in every child’s life. Payment Options for Excursions, Incursions and Voluntary Contributions
To ease the financial burden on families over the year, we encourage parents to make payments throughout the year, to be assigned to fees, excursions and swimming etc. This can be as a regular weekly or fortnightly payment, or whenever you have some money available. See Jill Walker, in the front office to arrange this. Jill will be able to provide a breakdown of payments made, if required.
A HUGE Thank You to all the parents who have paid their 2019 School Fees.
The School Fees contribution assists Byford Primary School in being able to provide programs such as Soundwaves, Reading Eggs and Mathletics for the students. These programs are used on a daily basis in all classrooms. The fees are also used in accessing resources for the Science, HASS and the Arts, which adds to the overall learning of your student.

Payments by cash or cheque can be made at the Front Office for Voluntary Contributions. If you are paying for an Excursion or Incursion, please take your payment to your child’s teacher so it can be processed through their money book.
Receipts
From the 12 August 2019 we have stopped printing receipts for most payments received unless you let Tracy or Jill at the Front Office know that you wish to receive these.
We are able to print a receipt for you any time if you decide that you would like one.
This will assist us in reducing the amount of paper and photocopying that the school is doing.

Students who do not have a hat will not be able to participate in sport / fitness or any outside activity and will be restricted to the undercover area. So please remember - No Hat, No Play!
