On Wednesday 2^nd August our school was lucky enough to be included in the 2023 Lexus Melbourne Cup Trophy Tour. Students enjoyed a special assembly with special guests from the Victorian Racing Club and Melbourne Cup CEO, as well as two champion jockeys who have previously won the Melbourne Cup. One of these champion jockeys was Damien Oliver, who has a special connection to our school as he was a past student of Byford Primary School.

It was a special occasion as Damien Oliver was able to share stories of his time at Byford Primary School and growing up in our, ‘little country town.’

During the assembly, students learnt about the history of the Melbourne Cup and it’s meaning to Australasia. Students were able to ask questions of the jockeys about their journey to win a Melbourne Cup. The values of hard work, perseverance and striving for high expectations were key messages shared during the assembly.
