Kindergarten & Pre-Primary Applications to enrol 2026
Byford Primary School is now taking enrolment applications for students entering Kindergarten and Pre Primary in 2026. Both Byford Primary School and Byford Community Kindergarten will be offering a Kindergarten program in 2026. When completing an application to enrol for Kindergarten, parents will be asked to nominate which program they wish to apply for.

The Department of Education requires an application for enrolment on entering Kindergarten, starting Pre-Primary and Year 7, or when changing schools. Parents of children currently attending Kindergarten programs this year (2025) must apply at the school for Pre Primary placement in 2026 if you wish your child to continue attending Byford Primary School. Further details on how to enrol are included in this Newsletter.

Applications for enrolment are due by Friday 25th July. Kindy places can fill up fast so please make sure you get your enrolment in as soon as possible.

In Room3, Year 2, we're poets and we know it!
This week, our clever writers created cinquain poems all about autumn. This poetry style is a fantastic way for us to show off our growing understanding of adjectives and verbs—and wow, did the class rise to the challenge! Their five-line poems captured the beauty of the season with imagination and flair. We’re so proud of their thoughtful word choices—look how awesome they are!

Rooms 7 and 8 have been learning language under the topic, ‘Tutto su di Me (All About Me).’ This includes greetings for different times of the day, asking someone how they are, asking people their name, replying with their own name and, saying their age and a few a few details about themselves. The students have enjoyed learning numbers and they will be learning Italian bingo, called Tombola! They have been practising conversation skills with questions and answers, plus their reading, listening and writing skills on Languagenut. Below they have completed some writing about themselves.

Languagenut are currently running a worldwide competition until 20th May. Students earn points when they do the practice exercises and quizzes. Languagenut can be accessed from any device, so the students are welcome to do it at home, they just need the username (lastname, first initial) and password. Top points scorers will receive a small prize at the end of the competition, but there are also worldwide prizes up for grabs. Good luck everyone!

On Thursday 3rd April our Year 5 and 6 students participated in the BSSA Summer Carnival. We had a fabulous day at Briggs Park with our teams competing in tee-ball, basketball, and cricket tournaments. The students should be very proud of their efforts, they all played very well and had their best performance on display – it was great to see the high level of sportsmanship amongst our students as they proudly represented our school!
Each of the teams showed great improvements across the day as their skills developed and they grew in confidence. A special mention for our Girls Tee-ball team who made it to the final, finishing in 2nd place!
A big thank you to Miss Winmar, Mrs Paxton, Mr Way and Mrs Charlton for their organisation, training and coaching on the day.
Great job, Byford Primary!

On Wednesday 14th May, students enjoyed an excellent morning of Faction Cross Country.  Students from Years 3 to 6 competed in our cross country event, running 1000metres and 1500metres.

It was a fantastic event with all students showing commitment and resilience to challenge their bodies and complete the endurance race.  Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend the competition. It was great to build atmosphere, cheer and support our children. This helped make the event more enjoyable.

At the end of competition, the results were…

Containers for Change

Please consider saving your drink bottles/cans and dropping them off to your nearest Containers for Change depot to be recycled and donating the proceeds to the Yr 6 Fundraising Committee. It’s so easy to do, just take your bag of cans/drink bottles to the Containers for Change depot and quote this number C10425624 to the cashier and you’ll be helping the environment and reducing the cost of the 2025 Yr 6 camp.  Containers for Change bins are also located at the school in the undercover area. Hat_Sun.png

A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year.  Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3.  Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.
