It’s A Mad World
Yes indeed, it’s a mad world. A fast-paced life with a never-ending list of things to do. Multitasking seems to be the skill everyone needs to master to survive. Things get done, time is saved and life flows on. Being on top of things brings a sense of accomplishment and control. But is that it?
We are social and relational beings. We need to be heard and so do others. Stories need to be told and need to be heard. Multitasking is brilliant and necessary, but there are times to pause.
M Scott Peek, author of “The Road Less Travelled”, puts it this way, “Don’t try to multitask when listening to others. You cannot truly listen to anyone and do anything else at the same time.”
Thomas Friedman is quoted for saying, “Listening is the ultimate sign of respect.”
Things need to get done, but let’s stop and pause, to connect, to learn, to understand, to belong, to listen, to be heard, to be alive. After all, life should be more than just about things to do.
Food for thought. May your week not be too crazy busy.
