Art Room

This term in Visual Art we took inspiration from having Valentines Day as one of the first special days celebrated since the start of school and decided on Love as our theme. There are many contemporary artists who have used the symbol of a love heart in their work and each year level has looked at some.

For their first artwork this year, junior classes looked at the artist Jim Dine. Starting with Rooms 4, 5 and 6 where they learnt about the elements of line and colour, as well as practising collage techniques. Room 2 and 3 concentrated on warm and cool colour schemes and using different drawing and painting mediums. In Rooms 7 and 14 students learnt how to use symmetry to fold and cut a heart shape, use warm and cool colour to create contrast using both paint and oil pastels, and use the element of line to create a radiating pattern.

Senior year groups looked at artists from the 60’s Pop Art movement. In Year 4, Rooms 1 and 8 looked at Peter Max to create their own love design, experimenting with colour schemes and acrylic painting. Lastly the year 5 and 6 students in Rooms 9, 10 and 13 looked at the work of Romero Britto, a current working artist in America who is inspired by the Pop art movement and graffiti culture. They then used paint sticks to create their designs. Their second artworks were made using watercolour paints and collage to create a mixed media, positive/negative contrasting design. We hope you like them as much as we had fun creating them.
