Principal's Report
Welcome to our Week 6 Newsletter. It is hard to believe that we are over halfway through the term. It has certainly been a busy first half to the term, with much more learning and fun to come. This week we celebrate Book Week, this year’s theme being Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds. We are fortunate to have a wonderful visiting author and storyteller Glenn Swift visiting our school this week to entertain the students. Our week will finish with the costume parade on Friday, and I look forward to seeing all of the creative, interesting and inventive costumes.
Planning 2022
Part of our preparation for 2022 is class structures and placements. This can often be a stressful time for school staff and families. While we are planning class structures and placements it is important that we have as much information as possible to make informed decisions that best meet the needs of our students and school. Firstly, I ask that any families that are not planning on returning to Byford PS in 2022 to please let the office know. This will ensure that we have accurate projected enrolments and will hopefully reduce the risk of having to restructure classes once the school year commences. Secondly, if you have any class placement requests based on the educational needs of your child please also forward these onto me. It is important to note that with over 360 students it may not be possible to meet all requests, but all will be considered. Please email this required information to Byford.PS@education.wa.edu.au and attention it to Jody Harrington.
Disco Thank You’s
A huge thank you to the P & C Year 6 Fundraising Committee for hosting a fun disco for us several weeks ago. It was a great afternoon and very well supported by our entire school community. All monies raised will go towards the upcoming Year 6 Camp. A big thank you to the Byford Districts and Country Club for providing a voucher for a complimentary kids meal to all students who attended the disco. We are fortunate to have such generous support in our community.
Year 6 School Captains 2022
Our Year 5 students have recently had the opportunity to nominate for the role of Year 6 School Captains in 2022. I was incredibly pleased and proud of the quality of nomination letters submitted, outlining why students believed they were suitable for the role. We have eleven well deserving students who have progressed to the next stage in the process, which is to deliver a speech at a special assembly next Wednesday 1st September. At this assembly students will present their speeches and students in Years 3, 4 and 5 will then vote for who they think is the most suitable. The announcement of the school captains will be at the Edu Dance Concert in Week 10. A Class Dojo will be sent out to Year 5 parents informing them of the time of speeches next week, parents and families are encouraged to attend.
Investing In Primary Science Funding
I am pleased to advise that Byford PS has been successful in receiving a State Government grant of $40 000 to help improve our Science and STEM resources and equipment. This funding will go a long way to improve the quality of science resources in our school and the programs we can run. We will keep the school community updated via the Newsletter with what we purchase with this grant.
