Principal’s Report
Dear Families and Friends
STEM Day Activities
On Wednesday 25th July we celebrated our learning in the area of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Our students were in multi-age groups and were able to complete three different activities. I hope that the parents who attended enjoyed the sessions and may have even learnt something!

End of Year Concert – Wednesday 5th December
Planning for our end of year concert is under way. The concert date this year is Wednesday 5th December. Children will need to be seated for a start time of 6pm. This year we have a change of venue. It will be held in the gym at Byford Secondary College. We will provide more information as the time draws closer.
THINKUKNOW What Young People See, Say & Do Online?
Do we know what are children are doing online? There is a great website to support parents to support their children when online.
“Technology plays an important role in how young people maintain their friendships and communicate with those closest to them.
Technology is no different to anything else a young person encounters. They will make mistakes, and we need to be able to support them through this and arm them with the right information, and empower them to make the right choices.
Through research and discussions, parents have told us they want to know what their children are seeing and doing online. We’ve developed advice on what children SEE, SAY and DO online. It is an easy way to remember what your children may encounter online, and the potential challenges they may face.”
The website site has some great resources to support parents to obtain helpful information and to help understand what, for some is, an area that we have little knowledge of and scares us. Please check out the website.

Room 2
In Room 2 we have been discussing the importance of having goals in life. The students have learned about the definition of a goal, how to set goals and what is necessary to do to achieve their goals.
We specifically looked at the SMART Goal framework which discusses the need for goals to be: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-bound.
The students have set three goals for themselves namely an academic, sporting and personal goal. They are now concentrating on challenging themselves and working hard to achieve their goals.

Chaplain Chatter
Hello! Hello!, just to make sure you heard me. How are we all this week?
People are generally social beings. Relationships are important to us all. Do you have someone to talk with who can help and encourage you, someone that you can really have a chat with, someone who hears you? It makes all the difference being connected. There is an old saying which goes a bit like this: “A person with too many friends can end up not knowing who to talk to, but you can have a good friend who sticks closer than a brother / sister and helps you through both thick and thin”. Food for thought.
Quality Character #16 Loyalty; is the bonding of individuals in a deep long-term relationship. Every important relationship in life must be built on loyalty, such as best friends, family, marriage, work place relationships etc. Loyalty is based on trust, reliability and commitment. The Canada goose demonstrates loyalty by protecting its nest from intruders and will even lay down its own life in defence of its lifelong mate.
Have a wonderful week everyone. Take care and I hope that you have someone to talk to.

Canteen
Welcome to Byford Bites for Term 3!
We still have our winter menu this term but there have been a few amendments and minor price changes so please check your menu before placing an order.
We are in desperate need of volunteers for Fridays this term, no experience needed and it’s easy to do! The kids love it when Mum / Dad / Nan / Aunty are in the canteen. If you are free any Friday please contact me!
I have a few kids that come and see me in the morning for a little chat and to watch me make pikelets. I have told them how easy it is so I thought I would share the recipe so any of the kids can make it at home. The mix can easily be doubled and if you make them a bit bigger they are great pancakes, perfect on a Sunday morning with banana, strawberries and maple syrup!
Pikelet Mix
- 1 cup self raising flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- Milk to make into thickish batter
Add all ingredients together and mix with an egg whisk. Keep adding milk and whisking until it is about the consistency of honey and smooth.
Heat frying or electric pan. Use spray oil (or butter) in the pan then pour batter in small amounts (about 1 Tblspn for pikelets, more for pancakes). When bubbles start to appear and ‘pop’ on the surface then flip over.
The Byford Primary School Canteen is open for recess and lunch on Monday and Friday. Orders can be made direct to the canteen, or through QuickCliq
https://quickcliq.com.au/
If you have any spare time on a Monday or Friday, volunteers are required to help in the canteen.
New Canteen Menu available here:
School Banking
