It is with pleasure that I can announce that the incoming Principal for Byford Primary School is Mrs Jody Harrington. Jody is coming to us from Kalbarri District High School where she was Principal. We look forward to welcoming her to Byford PS at the start of Term 4. I know that everyone will make her feel very welcome.
Faction Athletics Carnival
Last Tuesday and Friday’s Faction Athletics Carnival days were fabulous. We were blessed with lovely weather and both days ran very smoothly. Congratulations to all the students whose behaviour was, as usual, of a high standard, showing great sportsmanship throughout the day. A special congratulation to all the winners of events. Preparations are already underway for the Interschool Carnival which is scheduled for Thursday 24th September. We wish all competitors the best of luck and are confident they will represent our school with pride.
I would like to thank the staff for all their hard work in preparing the students, as well as for their efforts on the day. Special thanks to Ms Marchetti and Mr Way for putting together a great event.
To all the parents who attended, a sincere vote of thanks not only for your attendance and support of the day, but also for the great way you followed the requests to ensure the required social distancing occurred as well as it could be in all areas. Your cooperation in this has given us the confidence to allow other outdoor school functions to go ahead as planned.
EduDance Concert and Book Fair
As you should all be aware, the EduDance concert and Book Fair this year have had to be modified due to COVID-19. The Book Fair has rostered days and times for parents to attend to make your purchases. Students will have already had a preview during the day of Tuesday 22nd Sept to help speed up the process. Please be patient and follow the directions of the staff helping supervise the Book Fair. Students can also purchase from the fair throughout the three days if they wish.
The concert will be held on Wednesday 23rd September from 1.50pm to 2.30pm in the quadrangle area. We ask that families rationalise the number that attend as this is a smaller area and we still need to follow the social distancing requirements of 2sq m per family group. We look forward to another great performance at the concert.
School Development Day
Just a reminder that the first Monday of Term 4, 12th October, is a School Development Day and students are not to come to school. We will be busy planning for the end of the year as well as for 2021 and have a full program to get through.
To finish, I’d like to thank you for all your support over the past few weeks for both myself and all the staff at Byford Primary School. I hope you all stay safe and well over the coming weeks. Look after yourselves and your families.

Edu-Dance & Book Fair
On Wednesday 23rd September, we will see the culmination of each classes hard work and practice over this term in preparation for our Edu-Dance Concert.
This year we will need to make a few adjustments in accordance with the current COVID restrictions which we still need to adhere to.
We will need to hold the concert during school time, from 1.50pm to 2.30pm.
We are requesting that families limit the number of attendees due to the need for social distancing requirements of 2sqm per adult. Unfortunately, these restrictions have also meant that we will be forced to cancel our annual Open Afternoon that usually follows the concert event, as parents are still not allowed to enter classrooms.
The changes continue with adjustments to our annual BookFair, which is now operating across a number of days to limit the number of families in the library at one time. A rostered system will then be used to allow parents to view and purchase from the fair, according to the class one of their children belongs in.
Parents will be asked to queue on the quadrangle area and will be directed by a staff member when to enter the library. Students will have the availability to purchase throughout the day whilst the Book Fair is running, but they will require cash to do so.
Please find times below for parents to view and purchase:

We were so excited to be able to hold our 2020 Faction Carnival event on Friday 11th September 2020 and it was an outstanding day! It was fantastic to see all the students enjoying their running races and trying their best, working together with their faction peers in the team games. Students and Staff looked amazing in their faction colours. Everyone participated with great enthusiasm and tried their best all day. A big thank you must go out to our families and friends, as you all adhered to the current restrictions which enabled us to hold such a large, whole-school event.
It was a day full of super close competition. WELL DONE TO ALL!

Room 12 have been lucky enough to have our Buddies from Room 13 come and work with us this term. One of the activities we did was about measurement. Pre-Primary's listened carefully to instructions from our Buddies on how to fold paper to make a paper plane. We then flew them and measured how far they flew. We had a fantastic time and can't wait to work with our Room 13 Buddies again.

Hi everyone and here’s to a new week in Spring.
Spring, new life and maybe new thoughts. A Canadian Author, L.M. Montgomery (1874-1942) said, "Isn’t it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about?”
Food for thought this week and here are some ideas for the school holidays; why not get out a magnifying glass, pick a spot and see how many things you can discover that you can’t normally notice or see. What does a grain of sand even look like? Can you find two grains of sand that are even the same? What does a stink bug look like up close? How many legs does a caterpillar really have? How many shooting stars could you count in an hour? We used to look at the full moon with binoculars and try to count the craters. What are the chances of you seeing a meteorite striking the moon while you are looking? When is the last time you simply went for a walk and a talk?
During the holidays kids don’t forget to say please, thank you, I love you and to help out. Parents/guardians, any opportunity to say, I love you and to give a good hug, take it.
Keep your eyes open and have a great week of discovery everyone. Also have a great holiday. Take care.

Cook Book Fundraiser
The P&C are putting together a cook book to sell as a fundraiser this year.
Do you have any family or favourite recipes you would like to include in our cook book?
We would like to show pictures of the dishes and or children/family making the dishes. We will then put all the recipes and pictures together and sell the cook books at the end of the year to raise funds for our school. These will make excellent Christmas presents or gifts for any occasion!
Recipe entries close end of Term 3 (25th September 2020). They can be emailed to our School Officer at Tracy.Spencer@education.wa.edu.au.
We are excited to see and try all your recipes!!
Quiz Night
Save the date!! The P&C are organising a quiz night on Saturday 17th October 2020. More information will be provided soon.
