School Leaders 2026
We are excited to congratulate two of our Year 5 students who were successfully voted into our School Leader positions for 2026!
Congratulations to...
Taylor Horton - 2026 School Captain
Tyler Wood - 2026 School Captain
These two fantastic students were announced at our final assembly of this term and presented with their School Captain badges.
We look forward to Taylor and Tyler working with our current Year 6 Student Leaders next term to learn their new roles and responsibilities.
Planning 2026
Part of our preparation for 2026 is class structures and placements. This can often be a stressful time for school staff and families. While we are planning class structures and placements it is important that we have as much information as possible to make informed decisions that best meet the needs of our students and school. Firstly, I ask that any families that are not planning on returning to Byford PS in 2026 to please let the office know. This will ensure that we have accurate projected enrolments and will hopefully reduce the risk of having to restructure classes once the school year commences. Secondly, if you have any class placement requests based on the educational needs of your child please also forward these onto me. It is important to note that with over 420 students it may not be possible to meet all requests, but all will be considered. Please email this required information to Byford.PS@education.wa.edu.au and attention it to Jody Harrington.
Term 4 Rise Dance Studio Lessons
As we reach the end of Term 3, we look ahead to Term 4 and are excited to welcome Rise Dance Studio to Byford Primary! Our students will commence their Rise Dance lessons in week 1 next term. Please ensure you send your permission forms and money to school so your child can participate. Students will have lessons each week in preparation for our End of Year Concert Performance which will be held on Wednesday 10th December. So, please SAVE THE DATE!
End of Term
As this is the final newsletter for the term, I would like to wish all of our students and their families an enjoyable and safe term break.
School returns for students in Term 4, on Tuesday 14th October.

What’s been happening in ECE1 – Kindy?
Throughout the last few weeks of Term 3, we have been investigating a mini unit on lifecycles. We introduced the concept of living and non-living things and discussed the lifecycles of frogs, butterflies, and plants. We created some wonderful craft pieces, read some fiction and non-fictional text, and enjoyed some music and movement linked to this topic. In Week 8 we enjoyed a local visit to our wetlands to collect some tadpoles (and a couple of frogs), bringing some back for observation in our science centre.

R U OK day's goal is to encourage people to start meaningful conversations with those around them, listen to their concerns, and check in regularly to provide support. The message is that a simple "Are you OK?" can make a significant difference in someone's life, and that a conversation can change a life by fostering a sense of connection and helping someone seek further supports.
On Thursday 11th September our Breakfast Club supported the day by serving up our famous yellow pancakes which were enjoyed by all!

This term in HASS, our class has been exploring the geography of Asia and its relationship with Australia. We’ve compared and contrasted key features of both continents, gaining a deeper understanding of their similarities and differences. Students developed their mapping skills using atlases and digital tools to locate points of interest across Asia. After completing a series of mapping activities focused on different regions, students applied their learning by creating their own detailed maps of Australia. The results were fantastic—I couldn’t be prouder of their attention to detail, thoughtful presentation, and the effort they put into their work.

On Wednesday 3rd of September, the year 3's had a visit from the Cardup Fire Station. The firefighters talked to us about how to stay safe if we ever had a house fire.
The key safety points we learnt were:
- Make sure your smoke alarm is working.
- Make sure you and your family have a fire safety plan.
- Make sure everyone knows where their meeting point is (the letterbox is a good choice)
- If there is a fire, don't try to find everyone - just go to your meeting point, everyone will meet you there.
- If there is smoke in the house - crawl out to safety.
- If you are able to - call 000

Well done to everyone who participated in our Faction Carnival held on Friday 12th September 2025 and a special CONGRATULATIONS to our medal winners for this year.

Congratulations and well done to all
students who received Merit Awards.
Keep up the great work!
On Tuesday 23rd September our Kindergarten and Pre-primary students, and their families, enjoyed a wonderful morning competing in races and games for their Early Childhood Sports Day. The morning events centred around fun, family and fitness, with all children participating in both track events and some tabloid games, before finishing the morning with a family picnic on the oval.

Each month two students are chosen as our ‘Aussie of the Month’ and are presented with a badge, certificate and reward at our assembly.

A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year. Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3. Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.
Vac Swim
Enrolments are now open, and families can enrol online.
