Dear Families and Friends,

Welcome back to Term 4. It is hard to believe that we are in the last term of the school year, and it is certainly going to be another busy one with lots of end of year activities and events planned. Check out the save the dates below so you don’t miss any important dates this term.

Staffing Update

This term we have welcomed two new members of staff to our Byford PS team. Firstly, we have welcomed Ms Kelsey Timms who is teaching Phys Ed and in Room 4 while Mrs Deiderichson is on parental leave, and we have also welcomed Ms Bek Winning as our new Deputy Principal following Ms Doncon’s retirement. I know you will all join in welcoming both Ms Winning and Ms Timms to our school.

Planning 2024

Part of our preparation for 2024 is class structures and placements. This can often be a stressful time for school staff and families. While we are planning class structures and placements it is important that we have as much information as possible to make informed decisions that best meet the needs of our students and school. Firstly, I ask that any families that are not planning on returning to Byford PS in 2024 to please let the office know. This will ensure that we have accurate projected enrolments and will hopefully reduce the risk of having to restructure classes once the school year commences. Secondly, if you have any class placement requests based on the educational needs of your child please also forward these onto me. It is important to note that with over 370 students it may not be possible to meet all requests, but all will be considered. Please email this required information to Byford.PS@education.wa.edu.au and attention it to Jody Harrington. Please have your requests to Ms Harrington by Friday 10th November.

Faction Captains 2024

Last term our Year 5 students had the opportunity to nominate for School Captains in 2024, and we congratulate Stirling and Aiden for being selected for this role. This term, the focus turns to selecting our Faction Captains for 2024. Any interested Year 5 students are asked to submit a nomination letter to Ms Harrington by Friday 3rd November, this will then be followed by speeches which will take place on Wednesday 8th November. Good luck to our Year 5 students. The results will be announced at the End of Year Concert.

Save the Date

With so many activities and events coming up this term here is a list of save the dates for your calendar. Keep an eye out in your children’s school bags and Class Dojo for more detailed information about each event. These will be sent home or placed on Class Dojo closer to each event.

In Room 10, we have been learning about different emotions and our responses as part of our Health lessons. This term, we have discussed our first response when dealing with a negative emotion and how we initially deal with it. We then worked together to come up with different ways that we can overcome the negative emotion by using a controlled response. It really got us thinking about how sometimes a simple thing like stopping and taking a breath can really change the outcome of a situation by taking control of our emotions in the moment.

The Kelmscott Show was held on October 20th & 21st and Byford Primary School participated in the Kelmscott Show Schools Display once again this year. Mrs Prosser was very pleased with the volume and variety of work provided by several classes. The work was a mixture of classwork and artwork which together formed a colourful, interesting and attractive display.

Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we raised $425 for LOUD Shirt Day.  This money will be donated to Telethon Speech & Hearing.  Thanks again for your support.

On Thursday 26th October our Year 2 students enjoyed a fun filled day at the Constable Care Safety School.

Constable Care Safety School is a road and transport education destination, which caters for primary school aged children, facilitating their learning and practice of road and public transport safety skills in a fun, engaging, and realistic environment that links to the Western Australian School Curriculum. Based on best-practice education principles of learning through play and simulation, students were able to practice their safety skills in a space that allowed them to apply their knowledge and make decisions on how to approach real-world safety situations.

It was great to see everyone on their best behaviour and having a go!  Well done Rooms 2 & 3

Congratulations and well done to all

students who received Merit Awards.

Keep up the great work!

Containers for Change

We’ve joined the Containers for Change team to raise money for the year 6 camp, whilst helping to make a real difference to the environment.  This will roll over to  the Year 6 Fundraising Committee every year.  Donation bins have been placed in the undercover, blue court and pre-primary areas for students to donate their used water/drink bottles, juice and milk boxes (please look out for the 10c icon on the side of the container).  If you wish to donate containers from your household, please quote our Scheme ID #C10425624 when you drop off your containers to the recycle drop-off points and the funds will automatically get deposited into our fundraising account.

Hat_Sun.png

A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year.  Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3.  Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.
