Mud Kitchen
Our early childhood playground has had a small upgrade with a recently added “mud kitchen” in our sandpit area. This popular addition is being well utilised by our youngest students as they play and learn together. The mud kitchen encourages role play opportunities, as well as supporting student’s oral language development and social skills, such as turn taking, sharing and cooperative play.

The State Government’s High Priority Maintenance and Minor Works Program
Byford Primary School has received a total of approximately $284,000 under the State Government’s $200 million over 2 years for a new High Priority Maintenance and Minor Works Program for public schools. We have received $52,000 already and we are obtaining quotes for replacement carpets and painting services.
Early Childhood Sports Day
On Tuesday 24th September the Kindergarten and Pre-primary children participated in an Early Childhood Family Sports Day. They were joined by the children from our local community Kindy and participated in a number of track events and tabloid games. Families joined in the mornings events, participating in races and games with their children and enjoying a picnic together on the oval. The enthusiasm, involvement by all and great weather made the day a success, enjoyed by both students and families alike. To view our video, please click here:

Kelmscott Show
The Kelmscott Show was held on the 18th and 19th of October and once again Byford Primary School had a display of our student’s beautiful art work which the children have made throughout the year. A big thank you to Mrs Prosser and Ms Doncon for helping with setting up our display before the show opened.

Woolworths Earn and Learn – What did we get?
Thank you for collecting the Earn and Learn stickers. Our community collected a total of 25,106 stickers! This year we focussed on building our Bee Bot collection and managed to add another 6 Bee Bots, along with the docking station used for charging them. With so many stickers collected we were also able to get some mats which will help our students as they code the Bee Bots to carry out tasks. It doesn’t sound like a lot but the total price was close to $1,350 and will improve our STEM Digital Technologies activites.

Planning for 2020
Planning for 2020 is well under way. As the area that Byford PS caters for is growing, it is very important that we are aware of students who will be leaving and any new enrolments. This will enable us to plan the correct number of classes for 2020.
I would very much appreciate if you could please let the front office know if your child/ren will not be returning to Byford PS in 2020. If you know of any families moving into the area, please encourage them to come and enrol their child/ren as soon as possible.
If you have a class placement request for 2020 this must be put in writing by Friday 22nd Nov and you are required to outline the educational reason for this request. Wherever possible, I try to fill requests that have an education reason. These requests need to be emailed directly to myself on the following email address: Suzanne.heath@education.wa.edu.au
When formulating classes some of the things we take into account are: the number of males / females, a spread of academic ability, a range of behaviours, personalities, relationships with other students and which teachers would best suit the individual or groups of children. Teachers spend a lot of time and effort in considering where students are placed and look at the best interest of the individual as well as groups of children.
Uniform Shop
The uniform shop will have an EFTPOS machine available on Wednesday 20th November between 2pm-3pm should you wish to purchase uniform items ready for next year.
Byford Secondary College Uniform Shop
To the parents of students attending Byford Secondary College in 2020:
The Byford Secondary College uniform shop is open two days a week during the school term, and you are welcome to visit during normal opening hours – Tuesday and Thursday 11am to 3.30pm. Entrance is via Mead Street near the Basketball courts, first building to the left.
If a scheduled time for a fitting is preferred (as opposed to a ‘walk in’) appointment bookings will be available in November through the school website below Please allow 30 minutes per child.

Waste Free Wednesday
After such a successful reduction in rubbish, we will be continuing with Waste Free Wednesdays.
End of Year Book Prizes
At the End of Year Concert a number of awards are presented to students who have made significant gains in their education. Parents, businesses and organisations are invited to donate a contribution towards the cost of these prizes. All donations are acknowledged. Thank you to those who have already donated a book award to the school.
If you are interested in making a donation, please contact the front office, or you can make a donation directly into the Byford PS bank account. Please enter BA and your name in the comments.

School Captains for Term 4 2019 and 2020
Last term our Year 5 students nominated for the opportunity to become School Captain for 2020. The students had to write a letter outlining why they would like to be considered for School Captain, attend an interview and present a speech to the Year 3 -6 students.
The 2020 School Captains were announced at the Edu-Dance concert and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Isabella E and Isla M on their appointments. We look forward to them being mentored by the current School Captains during this term.

Edu-Dance / Book Fair / Open Afternoon
This was a wonderful afternoon. The children’s performances were amazing. Thank you very much to all our parents, grandparents, family members and friends who attended the afternoon. It was great to see so much support for the children on their special day. We hope you enjoyed looking at the amazing display of work in your child’s room. Well done to the staff and students for making classrooms and student work available. Our Book Fair was another wonderful success this year also. The sales were $3,656.00 of which the school receives $731.00. Once again, thank you for supporting Byford Primary School.

Payment Options for Excursions, Incursions and Voluntary Contributions
To ease the financial burden on families over the year, we encourage parents to make payments throughout the year, to be assigned to fees, excursions and swimming etc. This can be as a regular weekly or fortnightly payment, or whenever you have some money available. See Jill Walker, in the front office to arrange this. Jill will be able to provide a breakdown of payments made, if required.
Direct Bank Deposit
Pay directly into the Byford Primary School’s bank account. Simply access your internet banking service provider and pay to the following account:

Receipts
From the 12 August 2019 we have stopped printing receipts for most payments received unless you let Tracy or Jill at the Front Office know that you wish to receive these.
We are able to print a receipt for you any time if you decide that you would like one.
This will assist us in reducing the amount of paper and photocopying that the school is doing.
Don’t Forget Your Hat
Please remember to bring your hat to school each day. It is important to protect ourselves from the sun. Your hat must be wide brim or bucket style.
Students who do not have a hat will not be able to participate in sport / fitness or any outside activity and will be restricted to the undercover area. So please remember - No Hat, No Play!
