Dale Fest
Dale Fest is an annual school district event, held for school choirs to attend and sing their hearts out together. This year’s event was held on Wednesday the 14th of August and the theme was “Unity”. Our school choir is made up of students from years 3 to 6 on a volunteer basis and we practice every Wednesday morning. The choir have a lot of new members this year who have brought a vibrant enthusiasm, as well as some experienced students who have continued to shine and this has made it a pleasure to not only lead them in singing practice but also lead them in representing our school at this event.
At Dale Fest all attending schools workshop together to practice some community songs that everyone sings together in between solo school performances. For our school performance our choir sang the song, “It Could Be A Wonderful World” which is a beautiful folk song that truly sums up this year’s theme of unity.
I’d like to thank the parents who came in support on the day and a big thank you to Mrs Chester for helping out with the setup on the day. And congratulations to the choir students on their awesome behaviour and beautiful singing on the day. You all made me very proud and definitely showed The Byford Way.

Immunisation Requirements for Children Enrolling at School
The Western Australian Government has amendment the Public Health Act 2016 and the School Education Act 1999 (WA) to introduce requirements for enrolment into child care services, community kindergartens and schools. These changes take effect as of 22 July 2019.
When enrolling your child at school you will need to provide:
- an AIR Immunisation History Statement no more than two months old; or
- an AIR Immunisation History Form no more than six months old, only if the child is on a catch-up schedule, or
- a valid immunisation certificate issued or declared by the Chief Health Officer (see the school or your GP for more information)
Children enrolling in Kindergarten must be up to date with all scheduled immunisations for their age to be able to enrol.
All children can be enrolled in the compulsory years of schooling (Pre-primary to Year 12) regardless of their immunisation status.
AIR Immunisation History Statement
A child’s current AIR Immunisation History Statement can be accessed at any time by the parent/guardian through:
- MyGov, by logging in to their Medicare online account
- Medicare Express Plus App, by logging into their Medicare account
- Visiting a Medicare or Centrelink office, or
- Calling the AIR General Enquiries Line on 1800 653 809 to request an AIR the Statement to be posted
Vaccine exemption due to medical reasons or natural immunity
If a child cannot receive one or more vaccines for certain medical reasons or the child has natural immunity, parents need to contact their GP in the first instance. If a vaccine exemption is warranted, the medical practitioner needs to advise the AIR online or by completing and submitting the AIR – Immunisation Medical Exemption Form. Children who have a valid medical exemption to vaccination or natural immunity will have an immunisation status that is recorded as ‘up to date’ on their AIR Immunisation History Statement.
Children who are exempt
Parents/carers may apply to the Principal of the school for an exemption because of family circumstances if the child:
- is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- is in the care of the CEO of the Department of Communities
- is living in crisis or emergency accommodation because of family violence or a risk of family violence, or homelessness
- •has been evacuated from their ordinary place of residence because it is in an area of the State to which a declaration made under the Emergency Management Act 2005, section 56 applies
- is in the care of an adult, other than the child’s parent or guardian, because of exceptional circumstances
- Is in the care of a responsible person who holds a valid:
- health care card
- pensioner concession card
- Veterans’ Affairs white card
- Veterans’ Affairs gold card
First entered Australia not more than 6 months before the time of enrolment and holds or parent holds, one of the following visa subclasses: 200, 201, 202, 203, 204, 785, 790, or 866.
If you have any questions or require support, please contact the school or the Department of Health
