Principal’s Report

Dear Families and Friends

Interschool Winter Lightning Carnival

Our winter lightning carnival was certainly a wet one this year, but it didn’t stop a fun day of sports. The rain tested out the amazing skills of all the children, who competed with great spirit and sportsmanship. The football, netball and soccer teams were well supported by family and friends who braved the weather to cheer from the sidelines. Thank you to everyone involved!

Our Year 6 netball team competed hard all day for a fourth place finish. The Year 5 Netball team and Year 6 Soccer team were close to taking out the competition and achieved 2nd place. A huge congratulations to our Football team who played some fantastic football and won all three of their games to win the days competition.

All students did our school proud and competed well to achieve these great results.

Faction Cross Country

On Friday 21st June 2019, students from year 3 to 6 competed in our Faction Cross Country event, running 1000metres and 1500metres. It was an excellent event with all students showing great commitment and resilience to challenge their bodies and complete the endurance race.

Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend the competition. It was fantastic to build atmosphere, cheer and support our children. This helped make the event more enjoyable.

At the end of competition, the results were:

Zeus 910 Points

Apollo 780 Points

Venus 1030 Points

Mercury 1680 Points

Mercury was our winning faction for 2019 with 1680 points.
Congratulations to all our Mercury competitors.

STEAM Day

Byford Primary School is looking forward to an engaging, fun STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) Day, coming up on Thursday 4th July. Students will be working in groups across the school to complete specialised STEAM activities to develop their skills and showcase the latest technological equipment our school has invested in. We were lucky enough to receive a grant from ATCO (Natural Gas company) which we have used to purchase the latest robotics equipment, ‘Dash & Dot’ and ‘BlueBots.’ The funding received from ATCO has enabled our school to improve the teaching and learning programs we can offer in the Technologies Curriculum and immerse the students in the latest educational resources.

Sustainable Salons

Did you know that it takes 20 ponytails to make just one wig!

This week Hayden got his hair cut by Sustainable Salons. His hair will be sent to local charitable organisations and wig-makers, where they can contribute to wigs for those suffering from alopecia areata, cancer or other medically-induced hair-loss conditions. What a star!!

Kindergarten & Pre-Primary - Applications to Enrol for 2020

Byford Primary School is now taking enrolment applications for students entering Kindergarten and Pre Primary in 2020. Both Byford Primary School and Byford Community Kindergarten will be offering a Kindergarten program in 2020. When completing an application to enrol for Kindergarten, parents will be asked to nominate which program they wish to apply for. Your child can only enrol in one of these programs.

Children born between July 1 2015 & June 30 2016 are eligible to apply for Public School Kindergarten.

Children born between July 1 2014 & June 30 2015 are eligible to apply for Public School Pre Primary.

When making an application for enrolment, please bring a copy of;

  • Your child’s birth certificate
  • Passport and Visa Grant Notice if born overseas
  • Proof of residential address (eg utility bill, lease agreement);
  • ACIR immunisation records, and
  • Family Court Orders (if applicable)

What is the difference between a Community Kindergarten and a school-based Kindergarten? Please click here for details:

Application forms are also available on our website below or can be obtained from the Front Office.

https://byfordps.wa.edu.au/

Application forms for Pre Primary 2020 will be sent out to our current Kindergarten students. Parents of children currently attending Kindergarten programs this year (2019) must apply at the school for Pre Primary placement in 2020 if you wish your child to continue attending Byford Primary School. Please note, students residing outside our catchment area may still apply, however your application may not be successful.

Students in Pre Primary in 2019 will automatically roll over into Year 1 in 2020 and beyond. If your child will not be returning to Byford Primary School in 2020, please notify the School Office.

It should be noted that an application does not confirm placement for any child – selection criteria may apply. Application details will be used to assist the school in organising classes and placements for next year. Parents of children who are offered placement at Byford Primary School will be asked to complete formal enrolment details at that time. Unsuccessful applicants will be offered a place in a school as close to their residential location as possible or be referred to their local school in the case of Pre Primary students.

Applications required by Friday 26th July 2019.

All applicants will be advised of their child’s placement during Term 3 this year. Enrolment applications can be made through the school office between the hours of 9.30am to 2:30pm.

Fun Run and Crazy Hair Day

On Friday 14th June we held our school Fun Run. It was excellent to see so many parents joining in with their children and enjoying a fun morning. Well done to all the students who ran or walked laps, it was great seeing everyone trying their best and supporting the school. The funds collected for our Fun Run will go to the P&C who are raising money to help update the playground equipment.

This year we had an extra special Fun Run as we combined it with our Crazy Hair Day. The children always have a fun time checking out each other’s CRAZY hair. There were a lot of creative styles on display this year and it made our Fun Run morning even better. Thank you for your gold coin donation, we raised over $200 toward our Year 6 Camp.
