Principal’s Report

Dear Families and Friends

ANZAC Day Service

Thank you to all those who took part in our ANZAC service. Once again Byford PS students made us proud with the way they conducted themselves and our leaders made it a very special event.

We would like to acknowledge all our parents and friends, including Maureen from A Floral Moment, for donating flowers for this special occasion, we thank you and others in our community for being so generous – all the flowers looked amazing.

Kindergarten & Pre-Primary - Applications to Enrol for 2020

Byford Primary School is now taking enrolment applications for students entering Kindergarten and Pre Primary in 2020. Both Byford Primary School and Byford Community Kindergarten will be offering a Kindergarten program in 2020. When completing an application to enrol for Kindergarten, parents will be asked to nominate which program they wish to apply for. Your child can only enrol in one of these programs.

Children born between July 1 2015 & June 30 2016 are eligible to apply for Public School Kindergarten.

Children born between July 1 2014 & June 30 2015 are eligible to apply for Public School Pre Primary.

When making an application for enrolment, please bring a copy of;

  • Your child’s birth certificate
  • Passport and Visa Grant Notice if born overseas
  • Proof of residential address (eg utility bill, lease agreement);
  • ACIR immunisation records, and
  • Family Court Orders (if applicable)

What is the difference between a Community Kindergarten and a school-based Kindergarten? Please click here for details:

Remember, your child can only enrol in one of these programs.

To enrol at Byford Community Kindergarten, Park Road, click here:

Application forms are also available on our website in the link below or can be obtained from the Front Office.

https://byfordps.wa.edu.au/

Application forms for Pre Primary 2020 will be sent out to our current Kindergarten students. Parents of children currently attending Kindergarten programs this year (2019) must apply at the school for Pre Primary placement in 2020 if you wish your child to continue attending Byford Primary School. Please note, students residing outside our catchment area may still apply, however your application may not be successful.

Students in Pre Primary in 2019 will automatically roll over into Year 1 in 2020 and beyond. If your child will not be returning to Byford Primary School in 2020, please notify the School Office.

It should be noted that an application does not confirm placement for any child – selection criteria may apply. Application details will be used to assist the school in organising classes and placements for next year. Parents of children who are offered placement at Byford Primary School will be asked to complete formal enrolment details at that time. Unsuccessful applicants will be offered a place in a school as close to their residential location as possible or be referred to their local school in the case of Pre Primary students.

Applications required by Friday 26th July 2019 .

All applicants will be advised of their child’s placement during Term 3 this year. Enrolment applications can be made through the school office between the hours of 9.30am to 2:30pm.

Woolworths Earn & Learn

Woolworths Earn & Learn is back for 2019 and we’d love to have you involved. It’s so easy to Earn & Learn. Between 1st May and 25th June shop at Woolworths and collect as many stickers as you can for a chance to earn amazing resources for our school. There are boxes to deposit your stickers in at Woolworths Byford and at school in the Front Office and outside Admin. Sticker sheets are available at the Front Office so grab as many as you need. Your support to help us earn resources is greatly appreciated.

NAPLAN Years 3 & 5

NAPLAN testing commenced Tuesday 14th May. These tests give the school and parents an overall view of how your child is going and this normally echoes what we as teachers and you as parents already know. The school uses the information to help plan at an individual (child) level, class level and as a whole school. Attached is a poster that has been produced for NAPLAN testing, but it can be adapted for any test or big event in our lives. It is important to put things into perspective and this poster gives us some good tips on how to handle situations that make us feel anxious or stressed.

Federal Election Day BBQ

On Sat 18th May, Byford Primary School will be open as a polling place. Voting will take place in the undercover area. Our P&C and Year 6 Fundraising committee will be holding a sausage (plus bacon and egg) sizzle on the day. If you can help cook / serve on the day, please indicate on the Byford PS Facebook page or email the P&C on ByfordPrimaryPandC@hotmail.com. Remember to bring your money on the day to purchase a bacon and egg burger for breakfast or a sausage in a bun.

School Photos

It is that time of the year when we have our school photos taken. The photo team will be at school on Monday 10th & Tuesday 11th June in Week 7 this term. The photo order forms have been sent home. Monday is our main photo day when all class photos will be taken along with the majority of individual and family photos. Tuesday will be a catch up day for students who were away on Monday and to complete family photos if required. If you are interested in having a family photo taken, the envelopes are available in the front office for collection.

If you are going to order any photos you will need to choose the option you like, include the money or complete the credit details and send the envelope to school with your child on Monday 10th June.

If you do not wish to order any photos you will still need to send the order envelope to school with your child as the bar code on it is used to scan their name into the computer just before their class photo and individual photo is taken.

For students who have a split family situation it is the responsibility of the custodial parent to pass the information on to the other parent about school photos. Each individual parent is responsible for organising to order the photos they may be interested in. Spare order forms are available at the front office for this purpose.

Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform for photo day.

Good Standing – Reward Day

Congratulations to all those students who have shown the Byford Way, made positive decisions and kept their Good Standing during Term 1. As a reward for being positive members of our school, those students enjoyed an awesome ‘Bonza Bounce’ on an inflatable obstacle course bouncy castle on Thursday 11th April. The reward was a fantastic day and a great way to end a busy Term 1.

It will be great to see those students who were unfortunately unable to join in on our reward, improve their behaviour and work hard to keep their Good Standing in Term 2.

Library Bags

All students MUST have a library bag when borrowing books from the Library. Please make sure your child has a suitable library bag that will protect our precious books from damage.

Merit Certificates

Congratulations to all students who received Merit Awards. Well done and keep up the good work!

The Family that plays together stays together. People need to be supported and in turn support others. Time plus attention, plus affection equals love. Food for thought.

Have a great term everyone, be supportive and see what new heights you and those around you may reach.

Fathering Project

As part of The Fathering Project involvement with your school, I will be including helpful tips and ideas for all fathers and father-figures. I hope these tips will help, inspire and encourage all fathers and father-figures to be the best that they can be, as all fathers and father-figures are critically important in every child’s life. Paper Plane Challenge

Hi everyone and what a great morning it was on Thursday 4th April for the Paper Plane competition. It rained just half an hour after it finished. Nice.

The highlight was seeing all the smiles on everyone's face, including those faces with sauce around the edges of those smiles.

Good on you Dads, Father figures and Mums that turned up and helped their children in the competition. You helped make a great memory for your child. You also helped make the event a great success. They will remember that for a long time to come.

Congratulations to the winners of their division:

K/P winner was Harry K in Rm 12

1/2 winner was Jonathan L Rm 2

3/4 equal winners were Bailey  C and Stevie S both from Rm 7

5/6 winner was Claydon C from Rm 13

Thanks again to everyone that entered and made it a fantastic way to start the day.

Have a safe week and take care of each other.

Joe Grida
School Chaplain.
