Principal’s Report
Dear Families and Friends
Coles Sport for Schools
Earlier in the year we were collecting Coles Sport for Schools vouchers. We collected just over 59,890 vouchers and then exchanged them for sporting equipment. We ordered a number of individual items i.e. tennis balls, basketballs as well as kits including quoits, egg and spoon sets, cricket sets. Some items are still on back order. These have been unpacked and are in the sports shed and are being used by our students.

Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Local Area Cycling and Walking Plan
The Shire of SJ are asking people to become involved by providing feedback via an online survey that will help identify the communities cycling and walking needs and priorities. A number of parents have approached me about extending the walk path from the Scarp along South West Hwy so that the children do not have to cross South West Hwy twice. This is your opportunity to provide this information to Shire. The survey will take about 5 mins of your time.

End of Year P&C Raffle
The P&C will be drawing the raffle at the end of year concert. In the past we have had some fantastic prizes. The P&C are calling for donations for the raffle. These can be placed in the baskets at the classrooms.
Food Hampers
Our local community is once again calling for donations of food items (non-perishable) that will be packaged in a hamper and donated to local families in need. If you can provide any items, please leave them at the front office or in the basket in the library.
Kindergarten & Pre Primary Information Sessions - Reminder
Parents/Guardians of children who have been accepted and will be attending Kindergarten and Pre Primary at Byford Primary School in 2019 are invited to attend an information session.
Pre Primary Session is Tuesday 27th November 2018 at 2:00 - 3:00pm. At this session you will be given an information package and be able to have a look at our facilities. Please come to the Front Office and you will be directed to Room 12. During this term your child will participate in orientation sessions during the school day as part of the transition program. For this reason children do not need to attend the parent session.
Kindergarten Session is Thursday 29th November 2018 at 9:00 - 10:00am. At this time, children will participate in an orientation activity. Please come to the Front Office and we will direct you to where these activities will take place. You will be provided with an information package for 2019 on this day.
Families who have applied for the Community Kindergarten program at Park Road will be invited to an information session at 9am on Friday 30th November 2018. A letter has been sent out to inform these parents.
Parent Helper Morning Tea
I would like to extend an invitation to our parents and friends who have helped in any capacity over the year to a ‘Thank You’ morning tea. This will take place on Wednesday 28th November at 9:45am in the Library. We look forward to seeing you there.
End of Year Concert – Wednesday 5th December
The End of Year concert is fast approaching and the students are busy preparing their items. It will be a Virtues theme this year. The concert times are 6:00pm – 8:30pm and will be held at the Byford Secondary College in the gym. Students need to be at the venue and seated at 5:45pm so we can commence at 6pm. Parents will need to bring their own chairs. The gym floor is made of special material so we ask that you bring a picnic blanket to put under your chairs in order to protect the flooring.
We hope to see you there to share in the students’ performances and to celebrate our many award winners.
Our students will be transported by bus to BSC during the day, on Wednesday for a practice on the stage. A gold coin donation towards covering the cost of the bus is greatly appreciated.
End of Year Book Prizes
At the End of Year Concert a number of awards are presented to students who have made significant gains in their education. Parents, businesses and organisations are invited to donate a contribution towards the cost of these prizes. All donations are acknowledged. Thank you to those who have already donated a book award to the school.
If you are interested in making a donation, please contact the front office, or you can make a donation directly into the Byford PS bank account. Please enter BA and your name in the comments.

Planning for 2019 - Reminder
Planning for 2019 is well under way. As the area that Byford PS caters for is growing, it is very important that we are aware of students who will be leaving and any new enrolments. This will enable us to plan the correct number of classes for 2019.
I would very much appreciate if you could please let the Front Office know if your child/ren will not be returning to Byford PS in 2019. If you know of any families moving into the area, please encourage them to come and enrol their child/ren as soon as possible.

Chaplain Chatter
Hello to everyone. It was a beautiful weekend and I hope that you took the time to enjoy some of it.
Many moons ago an 11 year old girl called Grace Bedell wrote a letter to the then president of the United states of America. She suggested that he grow a beard because his face was too thin and that it would help him to look better. He took on her advice and when his train went through the town that she lived in, he made a special effort to visit her. He thanked her and showed her his beard and new appearance. His name was Abraham Lincoln. We shouldn’t look down on youth. Food for thought.
Have a great week everyone. Keep smiling and the whole world will smile with you.
