Kindergarten & Pre Primary Information Sessions - Reminder
Parents/Guardians of children who have been accepted and will be attending Kindergarten and Pre Primary at Byford Primary School in 2019 are invited to attend an information session.
Pre Primary Session is Tuesday 27th November 2018 at 2:00 - 3:00pm. At this session you will be given an information package and be able to have a look at our facilities. Please come to the Front Office and you will be directed to Room 12. During this term your child will participate in orientation sessions during the school day as part of the transition program. For this reason children do not need to attend the parent session.
Kindergarten Session is Thursday 29th November 2018 at 9:00 - 10:00am. At this time, children will participate in an orientation activity. Please come to the Front Office and we will direct you to where these activities will take place. You will be provided with an information package for 2019 on this day.
Families who have applied for the Community Kindergarten program at Park Road will be invited to an information session at 9am on Friday 30th November 2018. A letter will be sent out to inform these parents.
Parent Helper Morning Tea
I would like to extend an invitation to our parents and friends who have helped in any capacity over the year to a ‘Thank You’ morning tea. This will take place on Wednesday 28th November at 9:45am in the Library. We look forward to seeing you there.
End of Year Concert – Tuesday 5th December
The End of Year concert is fast approaching and the students are busy preparing their items. It will be a Virtues theme this year. The concert times are 6:00pm – 8:30pm and will be held at the Byford Secondary College in the gym. Students need to be at the venue and seated at 5:45pm so we can commence at 6pm.
We hope to see you there to share in the students’ performances and to celebrate our many award winners.
Our students will be transported by bus to BSC during the day, on Wednesday for a practice on the stage. A gold coin donation towards covering the cost of the bus is greatly appreciated.
End of Year Book Prizes
At the End of Year Concert a number of awards are presented to students who have made significant gains in their education. Parents, businesses and organisations are invited to donate a contribution towards the cost of these prizes. All donations are acknowledged. Thank you to those who have already donated a book award to the school.
If you are interested in making a donation, please contact the front office, or you can make a donation directly into the Byford PS bank account. Please enter BA and your name in the comments.

Planning for 2019 - Reminder
Planning for 2019 is well under way. As the area that Byford PS caters for is growing, it is very important that we are aware of students who will be leaving and any new enrolments. This will enable us to plan the correct number of classes for 2019.
I would very much appreciate if you could please let the Front Office know if your child/ren will not be returning to Byford PS in 2019. If you know of any families moving into the area, please encourage them to come and enrol their child/ren as soon as possible.
If you have a particular class placement request for 2019 this must be put in writing by Friday 9th November and you are required to outline the educational reason for this request. Wherever possible, I try to fill requests that have an education reason. These requests need to be emailed directly to myself on the following email address: Suzanne.heath@education.wa.edu.au
When formulating classes some of the things we take into account are; the number of males / females, a spread of academic ability, a range of behaviours, personalities, relationships with other students and which teachers would best suit the individual or groups of children. Teachers spend a lot of time and effort in considering where students are placed and look at the best interest of the individual as well as groups of children.

Once again this year Byford Primary School joined many schools in the district to display their work at the Kelmscott Show. Congratulations students for producing a wonderful collection of colourful, engaging artworks. It did not disappoint! Thanks must go to Ms Gasper for her hard work in selecting pieces to be displayed. Also thank you to Ms Doncon for joining me at the crack of dawn to put the display together.

https://jumprope.heartfoundation.org.au/2018/Byford_Primary_School_-_BYFORD_WA_-_132215

Chaplain Chatter
Hi everyone. How are you travelling? Well I trust. If not, maybe this story may help you to be more hopeful.
In 1953 Patsy Sherman was wearing tennis shoes when assisting in the research lab at the 3M company. They were experimenting with chemicals to be used on aircrafts. Some of the chemicals spilt onto her tennis shoe and it wouldn’t come off. Later, no matter how dirty the shoe became the spot where the chemical dropped stayed clean. She and Sam Smith another chemist at 3M, worked together to develop a flouro chemical that could repel oil and water from fabrics. That’s how Scotchgard was invented.
Mistakes can point us in the right direction or towards better things. A mistake doesn’t mean you have failed!
Have a good week. Be hopeful, we can get our feelings to follow our will, which is driven by our minds. Take care.
Ramp and Roller – Chaplain’s Challenge
We did it last year. Can you improve on your design or start from scratch for this year’s Ramp and Roller Challenge? The Challenge will be held on the basketball court on Friday 23rd November at lunchtime after everyone has had their lunch. I’ll provide the ramp. It will be 1m tall. It will be 80cm wide. The length of the drop will be 1.5m. The Roller will be something that you design and build. Not something from the shop. No motors or power source other than gravity.
Specifications for your roller:
It will need at least 4 wheels. (More wheels are allowed).
It cannot weigh more than 3kg. It can weigh less.
Don’t forget that your parents can help you. You can recycle, for example, use wheels from an old Tonka truck and bits and pieces from anywhere. Please make sure that you have your parent’s permission before you use it. Don’t break up something new or someone will definitely be upset.
Your roller will be placed at the top of the ramp, released and gravity will do the rest.
The longest distance rolled will win a prize.
- 1st Prize - $5 canteen voucher
- 2nd Prize – Kite
- 3rd Prize - Boomerang
All entries will receive 1000 faction points. Everyone will receive a participation certificate.
Entries will be inspected before being allowed to roll down the ramp. The Chaplain will inspect them in the morning and all entries will be weighed.
Remember to give it a go. It’s all good fun. See what you can achieve. I will enjoy watching your ideas come to life.
Roll on challenge.

Chaplain
