Edu-Dance / Book Fair / Open Afternoon
This was a wonderful afternoon. The children’s performances were amazing. Thank you very much to all our parents, grandparents, family members and friends who attended the afternoon. It was great to see so much support for the children on their special day. We hope you enjoyed looking at the amazing display of work in your child’s room. Well done to the staff and students for making classrooms and student work available. Our Book Fair was another wonderful success this year also. The sales were $3,409.00 of which the school receives $682.00. Once again, thank you for supporting Byford Primary School.

Edu-Dance 2018
At the EduDance Concert we ‘unveiled’ our ceramic wall mural located in the quadrangle. This mural tells the story of the history of Byford Primary School and was commenced in 2017. Last year, each child and staff member wrote their name on a ceramic tile and this has been incorporated into the mural. Each panel tells part of the Byford Primary School story.
Byford PS was established in 1921.
The area was originally cow paddocks with a very rural lifestyle.
Children would ride their horse to school and they wore traditional clothing.
Classrooms had chalk boards, an open fire and desks with ink wells in them.
The landscape has changed with jacaranda trees, roads and more formalised play areas. Our current uniform with the logo is depicted.
Our classrooms now contain interactive whiteboards, laptops, a flat topped desk and we communicate with parents via platforms like Dojo.
A very special thanks goes to Mrs Chris Carins (former teacher), Mrs Val Springall (former staff member) and Mrs Sue Liddington (current staff member) for their design and preparation and for working with our 2017 students to produce the mural. This year we have completed the finer details and achieved our goal of having it ready for the EduDance concert. The attention to detail is a credit to them all. Thank you to Mr MacWilliams and Mr Dan Way for installing the mural. Please take some time to have a look at the mural and to identify the details that have been included.

Interschool Throw & Jumps and Track Events
Our interschool athletics will be held at Byford Primary School this year. We are looking forward to hosting Marri Grove PS, West Byford PS and Woodland Grove PS on these days. Those students who are involved will receive more information closer to the events.
- Tuesday 16th October – Interschool Throws & Jumps
- Wednesday 24th October – Interschool Track Events
Swimming Lessons
Swimming notes have been sent home so please check your child/ren’s bag. Lessons this year will be held at the Kwinana Recquatic Centre and commence Monday 22nd October to Friday 2nd November excluding Wednesday (8 days) for students in Pre Primary to Year 6. The cost is $60 per student. Payment needs to be sent to the student’s classroom with the completed swimming lesson application form and permission slip by Wednesday 17th October. Spare forms are available at the Front Office. If you would like your child/ren to participate but have difficulty paying by the due date please contact the front office to arrange an alternative payment plan. Students who have not paid for their lessons by Wednesday 17th October and have not made the necessary arrangements will not attend until payment is received.
Students in all sessions will come to school in their bathers with their uniform over the top. They will wear this to the pool. In a bag they need to take to the pool their underwear, a towel, goggles etc. This all needs to be clearly labelled, including the bag. At the conclusion of the lesson they will dry off and change into their school uniform before returning to school. Long hair must be tied before arriving at the lessons. It is not appropriate to wear jewellery or to bring expensive items to swimming lessons. Students will not be able to purchase anything from the pool canteen.
Kindergarten & Pre Primary Information Sessions
Parents/Guardians of children who have been accepted and will be attending Kindergarten and Pre Primary at Byford Primary School in 2019 are invited to attend an information session.
Pre Primary Session is Tuesday 27th November 2018 at 2:00 - 3:00pm. At this session you will be given an information package and be able to have a look at our facilities. Please come to the Front Office and you will be directed to Room 12. During this term your child will participate in orientation sessions during the school day as part of the transition program. For this reason children do not need to attend the parent session.
Kindergarten Session is Thursday 29th November 2018 at 9:00 - 10:00am. At this time, children will participate in an orientation activity. Please come to the Front Office and we will direct you to where these activities will take place. You will be provided with an information package for 2019 on this day.
Families who have applied for the Community Kindergarten program at Park Road will be invited to an information session at a later date, still to be confirmed.
Planning for 2019
Planning for 2019 is well under way. As the area that Byford PS caters for is growing, it is very important that we are aware of students who will be leaving and any new enrolments. This will enable us to plan the correct number of classes for 2019.
I would very much appreciate if you could please let the Front Office know if your child/ren will not be returning to Byford PS in 2019. If you know of any families moving into the area, please encourage them to come and enrol their child/ren as soon as possible. Thank you.
Reminder - 2018 Parent Survey
Byford PS is once again looking for your thoughts on the effectiveness of the school through a short survey. Do we get it right? Are you happy with your child’s progress at school? Are you happy with your child’s education and the management of the school? Through this survey we hope to find out about the impressions you have formed of our school. The survey opens Thursday 13th September at 8am and you have until 5:00pm Friday 19th October to complete it. We encourage all parents to complete the survey. The survey is anonymous and the more people who complete the survey the more reliable the data will be. The link is

Chaplain Chatter
Hi everyone and welcome back. The last term for 2018 has begun. I trust that you all had a wonderful two weeks holiday and are now ready for business.
Quality Character Truthfulness; speaking what is honest and accurate. This can be a challenge! Truthfulness is a lot more than not lying. It is truth telling, truth speaking, truth living and truth loving. If you want to be trusted, you need to be honest for truth is the foundation upon which lasting relationships are built on.
Telling a lie is like pounding a nail in the wall of one’s character. Then admitting the truth removes the nail, but the mark remains.
“Honesty is the best policy” is something that my parents and teachers used to say all the time. Food for thought.
Have a great week and like the great American Indians used to say, “Don’t speak with forked tongue.” Stay safe.

Chaplain
