Support the P&C

Our P & C work hard to get our community involved in helping to raise funds for the school. Here are a few on-going fundraisers during 2018 that you may be interested in. Every little bit helps!

Edu-Dance

Edu-Dance has become a fantastic whole school program at Byford Primary and we are set to commence this year’s program in Term 3. All students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 have the opportunity to complete Edu-Dance lessons, commencing Week 2 of Term 3 with Tuesday and Thursday lessons. The program concludes with our school concert on Wednesday 19th September in Week 10.

Each year level has a program specifically designed to suit their age group with appropriate music selected to complement each group. The program has once again been heavily subsidised by the P&C and the school to reduce the cost to parents. Parents will be required to pay $10.00 for the nine weeks of lessons. All students will be given the opportunity to participate in the first lesson but must have paid their $10.00 by Tuesday 24th July, (Week 2) to continue in the program. Art Room

In our last newsletter, Miss Marchetti discussed the school’s waste audit and our aim to become more sustainable and reduce waste. Well, here in the art room we try to use a lot of recycled materials and would love any donations that you can make.

Did you know that while glass jars are recyclable their metal lids are not. The same goes with plastic containers lids. Many amazing artworks can be made with these materials when collected in bulk.

Recently our Year 5 & 6 students made 3D soft sculptures and utilised plastic bags for the stuffing. Recycling materials in this way is not only good for the environment but also saves money that can be spent on many other materials.

Here are some materials that we would love you to donate to the art room:

  • Jar & plastic bottle LIDS
  • Plastic bags (bread bags etc & multiple use bags when they have a hole in them)
  • Clean polystyrene trays (ie meat tray) - we can use clean ones to do printmaking.
  • Cereal boxes cardboard

Check out our students working in the art room last semester.

Chaplain Chatter

Hi everyone, welcome back. I hope all went well while away from school. As we enter Term 3, our next character quality is Initiative.

Quality Character #15 Initiative; is seeing and doing what needs to be done before being asked to do it. Initiative is activated by thoughts and words, to plan, to calculate, invent and imagine. Initiative is a foundational building block to having a good character. The older whistling swan shows initiative by taking the lead in a flock’s “V” formation. As other swans follow the leader’s example and take turns breaking the wind, a flock is able to fly 30 percent further than if each swan flew alone.

‘Chaplain’s Challenge’ is back this term with a twist. I am looking forward to sharing those details soon. Keep smiling and keep hoping. Hope gives the heart courage. Have a champion week.
