Principal’s Report

Dear Families and Friends

Edu-Dance

Edu-Dance has become a fantastic whole school program at Byford Primary and we are set to commence this year’s program in Term 3. All students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 have the opportunity to complete Edu-Dance lessons, commencing Week 2 of Term 3 with Tuesday and Thursday lessons. The program concludes with our school concert on Wednesday 19th September in Week 10.

Each year level has a program specifically designed to suit their age group with appropriate music selected to compliment each group. The program has once again been heavily subsidised by the P&C and the school to reduce the cost to parents. Parents will be required to pay $10.00 for the nine weeks of lessons. All students will be given the opportunity to participate in the first lesson but must have paid their $10.00 by Tuesday 24th July, (Week 2) to continue in the program. Click here for a copy of the Edu-Dance permission slip.

Perth City Ballet Visit

On Tuesday 26th June our students were privileged to attend a ballet performance that promoted the ‘act belong commit’ message. It is wonderful that our students are able to be involved in observing different performing arts and are given the opportunity to expand their knowledge.

Hand, foot and mouth disease

We have had some reported cases of hand, foot and mouth disease. This is a common, acute, viral infection with symptoms that include a fever and blisters in the mouth and on the hands and feet. Students are excluded from school until the blisters have formed crusts that are dry.

Final Call for Kindergarten & Pre-Primary - Applications to Enrol for 2019

Byford Primary School is now taking enrolment applications for students entering Kindergarten and Pre Primary in 2019. Byford Primary School will be offering a Kindergarten program in 2019. It is likely that the Byford Community Kindergarten will also be operational for 2019. When completing an application to enrol for Kindergarten, parents will be asked to nominate which program they wish to apply for.

Children born between July 1 2014 & June 30 2015 are eligible to apply for Public School Kindergarten.

Children born between July 1 2013 & June 30 2014 are eligible to apply for Public School Pre Primary.

When making an application for enrolment, please bring a copy of;

  • Your child’s birth certificate
  • Passport and Visa Grant Notice if born overseas
  • Proof of residential address (eg utility bill, lease agreement);
  • ACIR immunisation records, and
  • Family Court Orders (if applicable)

Please click on the link below for more information regarding Kindergarten 2019 and our Application Form. This information is also available on our website in the link below or can be obtained from the front office.

https://byfordps.wa.edu.au/

Application forms for Pre Primary 2019 have been sent out to our current Kindergarten students. Parents of children currently attending Kindergarten programs this year (2018) must apply at the school for Pre Primary placement in 2019 if you wish your child to continue attending Byford Primary School. Please note, students residing outside our catchment area may still apply, however your application may not be successful.

Students in Pre Primary in 2018 will automatically roll over into Year 1 in 2019 and beyond. If your child will not be returning to Byford Primary School in 2019, please notify the School Office.

It should be noted that an application does not confirm placement for any child – selection criteria may apply. Application details will be used to assist the school in organising classes and placements for next year. Parents of children who are offered placement at Byford Primary School will be asked to complete formal enrolment details at that time. Unsuccessful applicants will be offered a place in a school as close to their residential location as possible or be referred to their local school in the case of Pre Primary students.

Applications required by Friday 20th July 2018.

All applicants will be advised of their child’s placement during Term 3 this year. Enrolment applications can be made through the school office between the hours of 9.30am to 2:30pm.

School Returns for Term 2 on Tuesday 17th July

We wish all our students and their families a safe and happy holidays and look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday 17th July.

Library Bags

All students MUST have a library bag when borrowing books from the Library. From the 30th June 2018 plastic shopping bags will not be in use. Please make sure your child has a suitable library bag that will protect our precious books from damage.

Science Room

Across all year groups in Science this year we have been talking about sustainability and ways to reduce waste in our school. We decided to run a Waste Audit to investigate the amount of waste we produce in one day. Room 8 collected all the rubbish bins from around the school and sorted the waste into 15 categories. Our largest rubbish piles were fruit and vegetable scraps, general food scraps, chip packets, plastic bags/cling wrap and paper/cardboard. We even found whole fruit and unwrapped sandwiches! We discussed our waste producing habits and now have a few ideas of what we can do to reduce our waste. So watch this space as we begin to become The Waste Warriors of Byford Primary School!

Chaplain Chatter

Hi everyone and again what a privilege it is to be a part of this wonderful community. I sincerely hope that we all had a great weekend. I know life is not always kind to us, I just hope that this week’s words help.

Quality Character #8 Endurance; is to sustain, to bear with, to persevere and to have patience towards circumstances. Endurance is to hold on to a goal until it is accomplished and is based on hope. It focuses on a greater goal rather than on distractions. The camel illustrates the secret of endurance by maintaining the inward reserves to withstand “desert experiences.” Do you have strength to endure?

Steel is forged through tremendous heat and effort. I think developing good character is somehow similar. Food for thought; have a great week, even if tough times or events come your way, be like the camel and endure.
