Principal’s Report

Dear Families and Friends

Winter Carnival – Year 5 & 6

On Friday 8th June some of our Year 5 and 6 students will be participating in the Interschool Winter Lightning Carnival. The soccer, football and netball games will take place at the Mundijong Town Oval and Netball courts. Games will commence at approximately 9:00am and the day will conclude at approximately 2:30pm. Our teams have been training hard. Good luck to all.

Toilet Upgrade

Byford Primary School has been fortunate enough to gain funding for our toilets near Room 6 to be upgraded. The upgrade has commenced this week and will take three to four weeks. In the meantime, our students will be directed to other toilets in the school.

School Photos

It is that time of the year when we have our school photos taken. The photo team will be at school on Thursday 14th June & Friday 15th June in Week 7 this term. The photo order forms have been sent home. Thursday is our main photo day when all class photos will be taken along with the majority of individual and family photos. Friday will be a catch up day for students who were away on Thursday, and to complete family photos if required. If you are interested in having a family photo taken, the envelopes are available in the front office for collection.

If you are going to order any photos you will need to choose the option you like, include the money or complete the credit card details and send the envelope to school with your child on Thursday 14th June.

If you do not wish to order any photos you will still need to send the order envelope to school with your child as the bar code on it is used to scan their name into the computer just before their class photo and individual photo is taken.

For students who have a split family situation it is the responsibility of the custodial parent to pass the information on to the other parent about school photos. Each individual parent is responsible for organising to order the photos they may be interested in. Spare order forms are available at the front office for this purpose.

Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform for photo day.

Kindergarten & Pre-Primary - Applications to Enrol for 2019

Byford Primary School is now taking enrolment applications for students entering Kindergarten and Pre Primary in 2019. Byford Primary School will be offering a Kindergarten program in 2019. It is likely that the Byford Community Kindergarten will also be operational for 2019. When completing an application to enrol for Kindergarten, parents will be asked to nominate which program they wish to apply for.

Children born between July 1 2014 & June 30 2015 are eligible to apply for Public School Kindergarten.

Children born between July 1 2013 & June 30 2014 are eligible to apply for Public School Pre Primary.

When making an application for enrolment, please bring a copy of;

  • Your child’s birth certificate
  • Passport and Visa Grant Notice if born overseas
  • Proof of residential address (eg utility bill, lease agreement);
  • ACIR immunisation records, and
  • Family Court Orders (if applicable)

Please click on the link below for more information regarding Kindergarten 2019 and our Application Form. This information is also available on our website below or can be obtained from the front office.

https://byfordps.wa.edu.au/

Application forms for Pre Primary 2019 have been sent out to our current Kindergarten students. Parents of children currently attending Kindergarten programs this year (2018) must apply at the school for Pre Primary placement in 2019 if you wish your child to continue attending Byford Primary School. Please note, students residing outside our catchment area may still apply, however your application may not be successful.

Students in Pre Primary in 2018 will automatically roll over into Year 1 in 2019 and beyond. If your child will not be returning to Byford Primary School in 2019, please notify the School Office.

It should be noted that an application does not confirm placement for any child – selection criteria may apply. Application details will be used to assist the school in organising classes and placements for next year. Parents of children who are offered placement at Byford Primary School will be asked to complete formal enrolment details at that time. Unsuccessful applicants will be offered a place in a school as close to their residential location as possible or be referred to their local school in the case of Pre Primary students.

Applications required by Friday 20th July 2018.

All applicants will be advised of their child’s placement during Term 3 this year. Enrolment applications can be made through the school office between the hours of 9.30am to 2:30pm.

Fathering Project Breakfast

Thanks to all the fathers / father figures and parents that came to the BBQ Breakfast on Friday the 18th of May. It was really great to see so many together who have a real sense of finding ways to develop their relationship with their children.

None of us are perfect and two heads are better than one. We would like to plan another event for our fathers and children. Do you have ideas of how we could come together and do an activity as a group? For example, a game of footy, paper plane throwing, a T-Ball game on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon or a Friday after School.

Please phone or come and see Joe Grida (Chaplain) or drop your thoughts and ideas at the front office. Like Dave Walker said on the Friday morning, "Kids know that we love them when we spend time and do fun things with them. They build memories around the time that they spend with you."

Looking forward to hearing from you and to our next get together. Keep safe and let's build those memories.

Chaplain Chatter

Hi everyone. As we continue to look at aspects of what are good character traits, this week we will investigate;

Quality Character #6 Determination. To purposely exert as much energy as needed to reach a goal. After wise choices are made, determination is needed to carry them out. Wise choices will often be challenged by difficulties and distractions. Reaching a goal requires more than skill – it requires determination. Swimming against swift river currents and waterfalls, King Salmon are determined each year to travel hundreds of miles from the sea to their spawning grounds upstream.

Be determined this week to achieve a small goal. Look after yourself and those around you. Have a bonza week everyone.
