Principal’s Report
Dear Families and Friends
It has been wonderful to have some cooler weather, however as a result, we already have a collection of jumpers in the lost property! Can I please remind parents to ensure that items of clothing have your child’s name on them?
I am still working with the Department of Education to solve our site work issues so that the transportable Kindy building can be on site as soon as possible.
Upcoming dates
The schools that make up the Byford Schools Sporting Association (Byford PS, West Byford PS, Marri Grove PS and Woodland Grove PS) met last week to determine the Interschool School Sports dates. These dates are subject to confirmation of venue availability. It was very difficult to fit the dates in around swimming (the bigger schools swim twice a year in order for all children to attend), EduDance lessons and concerts, plus numerous other events.
- Tues 27th March 2018 T20 Blast Cricket Year 6; venue West Byford PS
- Friday 8th June 2018 Winter Carnival Years 5 & 6
- Friday 10th August 2018 Interschool Cross Country Years 3 – 6
- Tues 16th October 2018 Interschool throws and jumps Years 3 – 6
- Wed 24th October 2018 Interschool Athletics carnival. Faction dates will be advised as soon as possible.
Swimming this year for Byford PS is in Term 4 - Mon 22nd October to Friday 2nd November 2018 at the Kwinana Pool. Our students WILL NOT be swimming on Wed 24th Oct and Wed 31st Oct due to early close. Unfortunately, the only common date that could be identified for the Interschool Athletics Carnival was Wed 24th Oct which is in our first week of swimming.
School Board
Our School Board meets twice a term. If parents would like to attend, please contact the office for the dates and times of meetings. If you would like any information about the Board or would like to chat to a Board member, please do not hesitate to contact one of the following.

Hi Everyone
Amazing, week 3 and here we go. Can you feel the momentum already picking up? Systems are go, go, go.
I saw a funny movie, Jumanji, on the school holidays. There are five characters with different personalities, talents and gifts. Individually they weren’t achieving much but when they worked together they were successful in accomplishing their given task. No one person has all the skills, gifts or wisdom necessary for a successful life. We are here to help each other with our strengths, kindness and respect. By doing this in unity we can all achieve great things. I am looking forward to a new year with teachers, parents and students working together.
Have a great week, take care and remember, “You count.” Give this week all you got.

Nurse Notes
A Message from the School Health Nurses
Welcome to the new school year from the Child and Adolescent Community Health Nurses.
We will be visiting the school regularly throughout the year.
My name is Jane Skoll and I am available to discuss any health concerns you may have about your child. I can be contacted on 9391 2289 or through the school. I am also available on email: jane.skoll@health.wa.gov.au
Immunisations
Is your Child attending Kindergarten?
The National Health & Medical Research Council (NH&MRC) recommends that children attending Kindy have the following booster immunisations:
Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (whooping cough) and Poliomyelitis (one vaccine).
Measles, Mumps and Rubella (only for children who have not already received 2 doses of MMR vaccine).
And any other WA scheduled vaccinations.
Your child can have these immunisations from 3 ½ years of age.
To book an appointment for your child’s immunisation please contact: 6151 1308 or
Central Immunisation Clinic –Perth: 9321 1312
Please provide the school with an updated copy of your child’s immunisation record. This can be obtained from the Australian Immunisation Register: 1800 653 809 or the website below:
http://www.humanservices.gov.au/
If a measles case occurs in a school, the Principal has the right to exclude non-immunised children from school for 14 days, or longer.
Head Lice
Head lice outbreaks occur frequently in primary schools during the school year.
The Department of Health recommends the following method of treatment:
10 day Hair Conditioner treatment
If you do use “over the counter” Head Lice treatments, they must be applied and then repeated as per the manufacturer’s recommendation.
Parents’ can assist in the prevention and control of head lice by checking their children’s hair frequently using the hair conditioner method and treating appropriately when necessary.
Friday is a good day to check hair as treatment can be commenced over the weekend, if needed, and no school time is then lost.
For more information please see:
http://www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/Articles/F_I/Head-lice
[Fact sheet available on website]
Please consult your School Health Nurse if you require further advice on head lice management.
Medical Conditions
Please advise the school if your child has a medical condition that may require treatment during school hours. A health care plan will need to be completed / updated by your GP and provided to school.

Bus Bay
The bus bay on Clifton Street is a ‘No Parking’ area for all vehicles except buses. This bay is required for buses transporting our students to and from excursions, as well as for day-care providers who drop off and pick up each day. Byford Primary School has made a request to the Shire to have the bus bays repainted so it is clearly marked to avoid any confusion.
