Your child’s report will be sent home on Monday 11th December. It is very important that you discuss the report with your child and in particular, celebrate their effort marks. The effort mark is just as important as the academic result. If you wish to discuss the report with any of the teachers, please make an appointment before the end of term.

Oval Upgrade

We have had a section of new turf laid and this area is out of bounds. The whole oval will be top dressed at the end of the school year. The oval will not be available for use for the month following the upgrade.

Court Upgrade in the Quadrangle

On Friday 15th December the upgrade to the courts in the quadrangle will re-commence. The basketball backboards will be replaced, the new acrylic surface will be laid and the line marking for the courts and four square games will complete the makeover. The upgrade has been funded by the Department of Education, Byford Primary School P&C and Byford Primary School. We are looking forward to returning in 2018 to utilise the new courts. The last part of the upgrade will be the installation of the mosaic mural along the brick wall behind the flag poles.

Chaplain Chatter

During Term 4, our school Chaplain Mr Joe Grida organised a fantastic event called ‘Rock and Rolla’. The event required students to construct a vehicle which will be rolled down a ramp to measure the longest distance.

On Thursday 30th November 2017, student’s proudly showcased their designs and raced their vehicles down the ramp. We had many vehicles travelling further than 10 metres! Three stand outs included a well constructed vehicle with large trolley wheels which travelled 17.3metres, a sparkly ‘car rocker cover’ which travelled 17.9metres, but the furthest distance was recorded by a 20kg piece of concrete which travelled the full 31.5metre court and could have gone further!!

Check out all the action by clicking the link below…

Mr Grida’s main purpose for this event was to build the positive relationships between children and their parents. The construction of the vehicle provides an excellent opportunity for children to work together with their parents.

Spending time with one another is so important within a family unit. Quality time can often be difficult to find as we lead such busy lives, however it is so important to make time for each other. The Rock and Rolla event aims to promote this quality time with a shared goal, the construction of a vehicle. It is great to see welding, cutting with jigsaw machinery, drilling, hammering and nailing used to construct the student’s vehicles. These techniques were done with parent support in a caring, supportive environment. It was great to see such joy and happiness in each of the students as they were proud of their constructions. A big congratulations to all families who worked together to take part.

As we enter the festive season, take a moment to reflect on the year, make time for each other and look after one another. All the best for the holidays, be safe and we will see you back in 2018.

The bus bay on Clifton Street is a ‘No Parking’ area for all vehicles except buses. This bay is required by buses transporting our students to and from excursions, as well as for day-care providers who drop off and pick up each day. Byford Primary School has made a request to the Shire to have the bus bays repainted so it is clearly marked to avoid any confusion.
