Dear Families and Friends,

Welcome back to Term 4. It is hard to believe that we are in the last term of the school year, and it is certainly going to be another busy one with lots of end of year activities and events planned. Check out the save the dates below so you don’t miss any important dates this term.

Staffing Update

This term we have welcomed a new member to our teaching staff.  Ms Gasper has accepted a position at another school, so we welcome Mrs Anne Farrell to our school as the new Art Teacher. I know you will all join with us in welcoming Mrs Farrell to our school.

Planning 2026

Part of our preparation for 2026 is class structures and placements. This can often be a stressful time for school staff and families. While we are planning class structures and placements it is important that we have as much information as possible to make informed decisions that best meet the needs of our students and school. Firstly, I ask that any families that are not planning on returning to Byford PS in 2026 to please let the office know. This will ensure that we have accurate projected enrolments and will hopefully reduce the risk of having to restructure classes once the school year commences. Secondly, if you have any class placement requests based on the educational needs of your child please also forward these onto me. It is important to note that with over 420 students it may not be possible to meet all requests, but all will be considered. Please email this required information to Byford.PS@education.wa.edu.au and attention it to Jody Harrington. Please have your requests to Ms Harrington by Friday 7th November.

Faction Captains 2026

Last term our Year 5 students had the opportunity to nominate for School Captains in 2026, and we congratulate Taylor and Tyler for being selected for this role. This term, the focus turns to selecting our Faction Captains for 2026. Any interested Year 5 students are asked to submit a nomination letter to Ms Harrington by Friday 7th November, this will then be followed by speeches which will take place on Wednesday 12th November. Good luck to our Year 5 students. The results will be announced at the End of Year Concert.

Social Media Age Restrictions

I am sure you are all aware from December 10 2025, certain social media platforms won't be allowed to let Australian children under 16 create or keep an account.

The Department of Education has provided resources from the eSafety commissioner to share with staff, students and parents. Today, we spoke with our upper primary students about the upcoming restrictions and they had lots of questions. We will continue to answer their questions and provide information and resources.

I would like to share with you the resources for young people and parents/carers so you can help your child and your family prepare for the impending restrictions.

In Week 10 of Term 3, our Year 5 and 6 students took part in an exciting Rugby League incursion run by the NRL WA Game Development team. During the session, students enjoyed fun, non-contact activities that introduced them to the skills and teamwork of Rugby League in a safe and engaging environment.

A big thank you to NRL WA for providing this wonderful opportunity to our students!

In Week 10 of Term 3, our fantastic Year 3–6 interschool athletics team took part in a great day of competition at West Byford Primary, joining neighbouring schools for a fun-filled day of sport and teamwork. The weather couldn’t have been better, and our students arrived full of energy and determination, ready to give their very best, which they certainly did!

The sportsmanship and team spirit displayed throughout the day were commendable, with our students representing the school with pride, respect, and enthusiasm.

A big thank you and congratulations to our interschool athletes and the staff who supported them for a successful and enjoyable carnival!

Well done to Byford Primary achieving third overall!

In Week 2 of this term, Byford Primary joined West Byford Primary and Woodland Grove Primary for the first-ever girls-only AFL carnival! The half-day event, hosted by West Byford Primary, brought together 19 enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 girls from our school for a fun and inclusive day of footy.

With only a week and a half to prepare, after a spontaneous decision to put on this carnival, our team showed incredible commitment and enthusiasm. They made the most of every opportunity to train, squeezing in sessions during lunchtimes, before school, and even after school. Some girls even practised in their own time, an amazing display of dedication!

The carnival was a friendly, non-scoring event designed to give girls the chance to experience AFL in a supportive environment, promote community, and encourage participation in the sport. The weather was perfect, and our girls, many of whom had never played before, gave their all on the field and had a fantastic time.

A big thank you to Mrs Charlton for being such a wonderful support and an awesome coach on the day, and to our parents and carers who helped with transport to and from the event. It was fantastic to see our students’ confidence grow, and for many, this experience has sparked a new interest in AFL that might just continue beyond the carnival!

During Term 3, Room 13 was exploring the geography of Africa. They looked at maps and climate, as well as natural features and the iconic African animals! We also focused on the country of Egypt, where the class completed a research based project. We also tried some artwork of one of the world's most iconic landmarks, the Pyramids of Giza! The students used oil pastels and exprerimented with colours and shading to create beautiful images, which were also sent to the Kelmscott Show to be displayed for the general public.

The Kelmscott Show was held on 17th & 18th October and Byford Primary School participated in the Art Display once again this year. Ms Liddington and Ms Gardner set up our display and were very pleased with the volume and variety of work provided. The work was a mixture of classwork and artwork which together formed a colourful, interesting and attractive display.

Are You The Next P&C President???

Hi everyone, I’m Annette and I’m the current P&C President. This year is my last year as a parent at BPS as my youngest child is graduating at the end of the year.  I have been a P&C executive member for the last 6 years and have found it to be very rewarding, my kids have loved my involvement in the school.

At the beginning of each year the P&C hold their Annual General Meeting (AGM) where all the executive positions are declared vacant. We always encourage new members to join, it’s not scary, there is no pressure and we always work together as a team.

If you are interested in becoming a member or taking on an executive role, please feel free to reach out for a chat or email Byfordprimarypandc@hotmail.com

Hat_Sun.png

A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year.  Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3.  Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.

Vac Swim

Enrolments are now open, and families can enrol online.
