Dear Families and Friends,

Welcome to our final Newsletter for Term 2. It is hard to believe that we are reaching the end of another school term. I would like to congratulate and thank all of our students and staff on the way they approached the teaching and learning program over this semester. I recently read the semester one progress reports and it is great to hear about what the students have achieved so far this year. I look forward to what the next two terms bring.

Semester 1 Student Progress Reports

Semester 1 Progress Reports were emailed home on Tuesday. I would like to congratulate our students on the progress they have made so far this year in their learning. If you did not receive your child/ren’s Report please let the front office know.

Kindergarten & Pre-Primary Applications to enrol 2026

Byford Primary School is now taking enrolment applications for students entering Kindergarten and Pre Primary in 2026. Both Byford Primary School and Byford Community Kindergarten will be offering a Kindergarten program in 2026. When completing an application to enrol for Kindergarten, parents will be asked to nominate which program they wish to apply for.

The Department of Education requires an application for enrolment on entering Kindergarten, starting Pre-Primary and Year 7, or when changing schools.  Parents of children currently attending Kindergarten programs this year (2025) must apply at the school for Pre Primary placement in 2026 if you wish your child to continue attending Byford Primary School.  Further details on how to enrol are included in this Newsletter.

Applications for enrolment are due by Friday 25th July. Kindy places can fill up fast so please make sure you get your enrolment in as soon as possible.

Hello, I'm Daniel Zulu, Your Chaplain!

Photo.jpg

I’m thrilled to be a part of Byford Primary as your Chaplain. My passion is to support and uplift our students, ensuring they feel cared for and supported on their journey. I believe in coming alongside both students and teachers to create the best possible environment for everyone to thrive.

When I'm not in my Chaplain role, you'll probably find me on the soccer field or getting involved in a game of footy or basketball. I also have a strong love for music – it’s one of the ways I find connection and creativity in my life.

I’m a qualified Chaplain, and I’m here to be a positive and steady presence for anyone who needs support or a listening ear. My favourite colours are green and purple, which I think reflect my hope to bring both calm and vibrancy into the spaces I work in.

I look forward to continuing to serve our community and supporting our amazing students and teachers in any way I can!

A Heartfelt Thank You for Your Incredible Support!

On the 22nd of May Room 4 held our own Biggest Morning Tea. We are beyond grateful for the overwhelming generosity shown during this recent fundraiser for the Cancer Council. Thanks to your kindness and commitment, we successfully raised $583. A contribution that will go towards supporting those affected by cancer and funding essential research.

A special shoutout to our wonderful adult helpers and those who made last minute donations. Your efforts made the day even more special, and let’s not forget the fun-filled game of Toilet Tag with the parents to wrap up the morning!

We would also like to extend our sincerest appreciation to our generous donors:

  • Byford Country Club
  • Heavenly Scent Florist
  • Fig & Ivy
  • Seven Sins Restaurant
  • Sweetheart Braiding Byford

Your contributions truly highlight the power of community and compassion. It’s inspiring to see how, when we come together, we can make a meaningful difference.

Thank you all for your incredible support. Every dollar raised is a step towards hope, care, and progress.

With gratitude

Classroom Teacher

So far this year students have been focusing on Physical and Chemical science. In years 1-2 students have been examining how materials behave and can be changed by either mixing to create new materials or physically to make them stronger. Students have engaged in hands on activities that allow them to explore these principles and apply them to everyday activities. In Rooms 1-3 Students have used their knowledge to work in groups to create arcade games that used forces, materials to achieve a purpose. This also involved communication, problem solving and trial and error. However, in the end they did construct amazing working arcade games and should be immensely proud of their results.

In Term 3 Science week will be running in week 5 the theme for this year is Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language. Students will have the ability to take part in activities during lunch times in week 5. These include an egg drop challenge, strawberry DNA extraction and many more. There will be facts and questions around the school for students to find and a science demonstration at breakfast club that week. I look forward to seeing you all during science week!!

On Thursday 22nd May, the top Cross Country runners from our Year 3 to Year 6 Faction Carnival event represented our school at the Byford Interschool Cross Country competition.

Our Byford Primary Cross Country team travelled to Woodland Grove Primary School to compete in the Interschool Cross Country Competition, running 1000m & 1500m on the oval and through the bush area around Woodland Grove Primary.

We were lucky to have a beautiful morning for our students to run the track. We are very proud of our students who rose to the challenge of competing against other schools, showing determination and resilience to complete the race and earn points for our school. A huge congratulations to all competitors for their running efforts! It is a great achievement, well done!

Congratulations to six of our students who placed in the top three for their event.

In Second Place for Year 3 boys – Carter M

In First Place for Year 4 boys – Cooper P

In Second Place for Year 4 boys – Hayden W

In Third Place for Year 4 girls – Gabriela R

Containers for Change

Please consider saving your drink bottles/cans and dropping them off to your nearest Containers for Change depot to be recycled and donating the proceeds to the Yr 6 Fundraising Committee. It’s so easy to do, just take your bag of cans/drink bottles to the Containers for Change depot and quote this number C10425624 to the cashier and you’ll be helping the environment and reducing the cost of the 2025 Yr 6 camp.  Containers for Change bins are also located at the school in the undercover area. Hat_Sun.png

A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year.  Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3.  Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.
