Dear Families and Friends,

It is with regret that I have to inform you that Mr Glen Duffield will be taking an extended Leave of Absence due to personal circumstances, so will no longer be Principal at Byford Primary School. He is disappointed that he isn't able to see the term out and wishes us all well moving forward. We thank him for his efforts over the last term and a half and wish him well in his future endeavours.

I will be stepping up into the role of Principal for the next 4 ½ weeks to allow for continuity at the school. Mrs Tania Hall will step up into my role as Deputy and Mrs Karyn Booth will be in Rm 15 full time. So from this end, it will be business as usual or as close to usual as possible in these times. This is Term 1 deja vu but hopefully without another covid outbreak.

COVID-19 Update

As you all will be aware, Phase 4 of the WA COVID-19 roadmap has been extended until Friday 23rd October. What does that mean for Byford Primary School for the rest of this term? We will need to make sure we are compliant with the rule of one adult per two square metres for any school events we are having.

Assemblies will not resume this term, with notices and Honour Certificates being read out over the PA and distributed to classes on the Wednesday mornings. The Book Week Parade will be held this Friday. Please see the information further in the newsletter for more details.

Father’s Day Stall

Next week on Thursday 4th September we will be holding the Father’s Day Stall where each class will be rostered to visit to buy a gift for Dad if they wish to. Friday morning the stall will be open if there are still gifts available for any student who may have forgotten to bring their money on the Thursday.

So here's hoping for a reasonably settled four and a half weeks and then a well-earned break for us all. Thanks for everyone's support over the last few days and looking into the next few weeks. It is greatly appreciated.

Keep an eye out for information regarding the Faction Athletics Carnival, Interschool Athletics Carnival and EduDance in the coming weeks through Dojo and notes sent home with the students. Planning for these events is well underway and will be finalised soon.

  • Book Week - Week 6 - 28th August 2020
  • Faction Athletics - Week 8 - Tuesday 8th Sept & Friday 11th Sept 2020
  • Byford Schools Sporting Association Interschool Athletics Carnival- 1 day of events - Thursday 24th Sept 2020
Book_Week_Curious_Creatures.jpg
DON'T FORGET!  Friday 28th August is Book Week dress up day.  The theme this year is "Curious Creatures, Wild Minds".  Students can either wear a costume to represent the theme or dress up as their favourite character in a book.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions still in effect which limits the number of people allowed to gather in an enclosed area, our Book Week Parade will be held out on the main blue quadrangle area.  This larger outdoor space will also enable parents, friends and families to adhere to the 2square metre restiction, still in effect.
We are looking forward to seeing our students dressing up as their favourite book character and highlighting the importance and enjoyment of reading.
Students are reminded to bring their book along and parade to showcase their favourite stories.
Student imagination and costume creativity will give them a chance to win a book voucher to spend at our 2020 Book Fair in Week 10, Sept 23-25 2020.

On Thursday, 6th August 2020, students enjoyed an excellent morning for our rescheduled Faction Cross Country event. Students from Years 3 to 6 competed in our cross country event, running 1000 metres and 1500 metres. It was a fantastic event with all students showing commitment and resilience to challenge their bodies and complete the endurance race. A big thank you to our students for their awesome sportsmanship skills on display throughout the event.

Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend the competition. It was great to build atmosphere, cheer and support our children for our first sports event this year. This helped make the event more enjoyable and the students love the support.

The final results for our factions were.
