Dear Families and Friends,

Welcome to our Week 6 Newsletter. It is hard to believe that we are halfway through our last term of the school year. Already this term we have participated in many activities, be sure to check out the save the dates below to find out what else is happening this term.

Planning 2024

We are well underway with our planning and preparation for 2024. Part of this preparation for 2024 is class structures and placements. This can often be a stressful time for school staff and families. While we are planning class structures and placements it is important that we have as much information as possible to make informed decisions that best meet the needs of our students and school. Firstly, I ask that any families that are not planning on returning to Byford PS in 2024 to please let the office know. This will ensure that we have accurate projected enrolments and will hopefully reduce the risk of having to restructure classes once the school year commences. Secondly, if you have any class placement requests based on the educational needs of your child, please also forward these onto me. It is important to note that with over 370 students it may not be possible to meet all requests, but all will be considered. Please email this required information to Byford.PS@education.wa.edu.au and attention it to Jody Harrington. I ask that all requests be sent to me by Monday 20th November. No requests will be considered after this time. Class Lists for 2024 will be displayed at school during the last week of term, from Tuesday 12th December. Thank you for your support.

Semester 2 Reports

Teachers have been working hard this term to prepare your child/ren’s final School Report for 2023. These will be emailed home to parents/guardians on Tuesday 12th December 2023. If you have recently changed your email address or are unsure if the school has your most up to date email contact, please make contact with the front office to check. This will ensure all Reports make it home in a timely manner.

Year 6 Camp

Our Year 6 students will head to camp next week in Dwellingup. We wish them the most wonderful time and hope they enjoy the many fun activities planned for them. A huge thank you to the 2023 Year 6 Camp fundraising committee for the outstanding job they did in raising money over the last twelve months to contribute to camp costs. Thank you also to everyone who supported the fundraising opportunities.

Booklists 2024 & Voluntary Contributions and Charges Schedule 2024

The BPS Board has recently met to endorse the Booklist supplier and Voluntary Contributions and Charges Schedule for 2024.

Wincs will continue to be our supplier for 2024. Details on how to access Booklists will be sent home via Class Dojo soon. There will also be hard copies available for collection at the front office for those who prefer it this way. A copy of each years Booklist will also be placed on the school website.

The Voluntary Contributions and Charges schedule for 2024 will be sent home with students today. There are no changes to fees and charges for 2024.

Open School Board Meeting

Each year the BPS School Board has one open meeting where all members of the school community are invited to come along to attend the meeting to see what the Board is all about. This year we will be holding our open Board meeting on Thursday 30th November, starting at 3:15pm in the School Library. All are welcome to attend.

End of Year Concert

I am pleased to advise that the End of Year Concert will be held at the school again this year, out on the oval. The date that has been set for the concert is Wednesday 29th November, and our theme this year is Musicals. More detail including times, seating arrangements and a program will be sent home closer to the time. We look forward to celebrating another successful school year with you.

Class Teachers

Congratulations to our year 5 students who nominated to be chosen to lead their faction as Faction Captain in 2024. On the morning of Wednesday 8th November, these Year 5 students presented a speech to their faction outlining how they would help their faction to be the best in 2024.

It was great to hear the students share the great qualities, positive attitudes and aspirations they have which will help them lead their faction in 2024!

After these presentations, the Year 3, 4 and 5 students completed their votes for who they thought would be their best Faction Captain in 2024.

The results of these votes will be presented at our End of Year Concert.

We congratulate all the candidates and wish them all the best of luck.

Congratulations and well done to all

students who received Merit Awards.

Keep up the great work!

We’ve joined the Containers for Change team to raise money for the year 6 camp, whilst helping to make a real difference to the environment.  This will roll over to  the Year 6 Fundraising Committee every year.  Donation bins have been placed in the undercover, blue court and pre-primary areas for students to donate their used water/drink bottles, juice and milk boxes (please look out for the 10c icon on the side of the container).  If you wish to donate containers from your household, please quote our Scheme ID #C10425624 when you drop off your containers to the recycle drop-off points and the funds will automatically get deposited into our fundraising account.

Hat_Sun.png

A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year.  Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3.  Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.
