Welcome to our Week 6 Newsletter. It is hard to believe that we are halfway through our last term of the school year. Already this term we have participated in many activities, be sure to check out the save the dates below to find out what else is happening this term.
Planning 2023
We are well underway with our planning and preparation for 2023. Part of this preparation for 2023 is class structures and placements. This can often be a stressful time for school staff and families. While we are planning class structures and placements it is important that we have as much information as possible to make informed decisions that best meet the needs of our students and school. Firstly, I ask that any families that are not planning on returning to Byford PS in 2023 to please let the office know. This will ensure that we have accurate projected enrolments and will hopefully reduce the risk of having to restructure classes once the school year commences. Secondly, if you have any class placement requests based on the educational needs of your child, please also forward these onto me. It is important to note that with over 360 students it may not be possible to meet all requests, but all will be considered. Please email this required information to Byford.PS@education.wa.edu.au and attention it to Jody Harrington. I ask that all requests be sent to me by Monday 21st November. No requests will be considered after this time. Class Lists for 2023 will be displayed at school during the last week of term, from Tuesday 13th December. Thank you for your support.
Semester 2 Reports
Teachers have been working hard this term to prepare your child/ren’s final School Report for 2022. These will be emailed home to parents/guardians on Tuesday 13th December 2022. If you have recently changed your email address or are unsure if the school has your most up to date email contact, please make contact with the front office to check. This will ensure all Reports make it home in a timely manner.
Booklists 2023 & Voluntary Contributions and Charges Schedule 2023
The BPS Board has recently met to endorse the Booklist supplier and Voluntary Contributions and Charges Schedule for 2023.
Following feedback received from the school community regarding the Booklist supplier this year, the BPS Board has chosen Wincs as the new supplier for 2023. Details on how to access Booklists will be sent home via Class Dojo on Monday. There will also be hard copies available for collection at the front office for those who prefer it this way. A copy of each years Booklist will also be placed on the school website.
The Voluntary Contributions and Charges schedule for 2023 will be sent home with students from Monday. There are no changes to fees and charges for 2023.
P & C AGM
The P & C Annual General Meeting (AGM) is being held on Wednesday 30th November. At this meeting all executive positions will become available. In 2023 we will have several executive positions to be filled including Secretary, Treasurer and Fundraising Co-ordinator. The P & C is not able to continue without all executive positions filled and enough volunteers. The P & C is an essential part of our school supporting the school with essential services such as the canteen and uniform shop, as well as providing funding for learning resources, school improvements such as playgrounds, and contributing to the cost of services and activities such as the Chaplain and EduDance. If you would like to find out more about what is involved in the P & C please come along to the AGM to find out all about it. If you think you would be able to fill one of our executive positions, or would like to know more about the roles please come into school to see me or give me a call. The AGM is being held on Wednesday 30th November, 6:30pm in the school staff room. Bring a friend and we will see you there!
Open School Board Meeting
Each year the BPS School Board has one open meeting where all members of the school community are invited to come along to attend the meeting to see what the Board is all about. This year we will be holding our open Board meeting on Thursday 1st December, starting at 3:15pm in the School Library. All are welcome to attend.
End of Year Concert
I am pleased to advise that the End of Year Concert will be held at the school again this year, out on the oval. The date that has been set for the concert is Wednesday 7th December, and our theme this year is The Byford Way. More detail including times, seating arrangements and a program will be sent home closer to the time. We look forward to celebrating another successful school year with you.

Two weeks ago, the Year 6’s went on camp to Dwellingup Dare Adventure Camp. Some of the activities we did on camp included: Trees Adventure zip lining, rock climbing, abseiling, orienteering (which is where you had to find coordinates in the bush), raft building, team games, kayaking, a commando course, a bush walk at night where you had to walk back to camp through the bush in your group and many more fun activities and games.
We had lots of different yummy foods like burritos, spaghetti bolognaise, cottage pie, chicken parmi, cooked breakfast every morning, and lots of different delicious lunches and desserts.
Thank you to all the teachers and education assistants who took us on a memorable camp. Thanks to all the Year 6 fundraisers and everyone for helping us to raise money for the camp. A big thank you to Mr G for organising our camp and all the fun activities.

On Remembrance Day, we acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country and acknowledge our responsibility to work for the peace they fought hard to achieve.
Our red poppy is a symbol of both Remembrance & Hope for a peaceful future. Poppies are worn as a show of support for the Armed Forces community. The poppy is a well-known and well-established symbol, one that carries a wealth of history and meaning with it.
Room 6 enjoyed making our own poppies to wear on Remembrance Day.
We have been advised by Kapture Photography that all portraits and class groups, sports and/or special team photos taken this year are still available for purchase. Sports and or special group photos will not be available for viewing and purchase after this school year.
Please visit www.kapture.com.au using our school code; HVFG4L
In Geography this semester the amazing learners in Room 4 have been developing their understanding of place, space, environment and change. To do this they have studied the Aboriginal Seasonal calendar and how Indigenous Australians look after the environment and how they use it. They also looked at the environment and its features within our school and discussed how it is cared for. One of the places they explored was our Bush Tucker Garden. Together they used their senses to explore the garden. Once they decided on which plants, they would like to taste they used the iPads to scan the QR codes to find out if and how the plants were safe to consume. Room 4 tried Bush Basil, Old Man Saltbush, Sea Purslane, Native Bush Mint, Wild Rosemary and the voted favourite Blueberry Lilly.

Classroom Teachers

Congratulations and well done to all
students who received Merit Awards.
Keep up the great work!

Fruit is great food. Pleasing to the eye. Sweet to the taste, easy to eat and better still it’s actually good for you. Someone once said that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are fruit. Against these things there is no law.
A wise king once said, “Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” How do we do that? We control what we allow into our minds and are mindful so that from our heart flows the good things we do and say, showing the good fruit.
Food for thought.
Have a great week everyone and may it bear good fruit.

Containers for Change
We’ve joined the Containers for Change team to raise money for the year 6 camp, whilst helping to make a real difference to the environment. A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year. Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3. Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.
