Dear Families and Friends,

Welcome back to Term 4. It is hard to believe that we are in the last term of the school year, and it is certainly going to be another busy one with lots of end of year activities and events planned. Check out the save the dates below so you don’t miss any important dates this term.

Planning 2023

Part of our preparation for 2023 is class structures and placements. This can often be a stressful time for school staff and families. While we are planning class structures and placements it is important that we have as much information as possible to make informed decisions that best meet the needs of our students and school. Firstly, I ask that any families that are not planning on returning to Byford PS in 2023 to please let the office know. This will ensure that we have accurate projected enrolments and will hopefully reduce the risk of having to restructure classes once the school year commences. Secondly, if you have any class placement requests based on the educational needs of your child please also forward these onto me. It is important to note that with over 360 students it may not be possible to meet all requests, but all will be considered. Please email this required information to Byford.PS@education.wa.edu.au and attention it to Jody Harrington. Please have your requests to Ms Harrington by Friday 18th November.

Year 6 Camp

Our Year 6 students will head to camp next week in Dwellingup. We wish them the most wonderful time and hope they enjoy the many fun activities planned for them. A huge thank you to the 2022 Year 6 Camp fundraising committee for the outstanding job they did in raising money over the last twelve months to contribute to camp costs. Thank you also to everyone who supported the fundraising opportunities. I can’t wait to hear all about the camp when they return.

Faction Captains 2023

Last term our Year 5 students had the opportunity to nominate for School Captains in 2023, and we congratulate Ashton and Jake for being selected for this role. This term, the focus turns to selecting our Faction Captains for 2023. Any interested Year 5 students are asked to submit a nomination letter to Ms Harrington by Wednesday 9th November, this will then be followed by speeches which will take place on Wednesday 23rd November. Good luck to our Year 5 students. The results will be announced at the End of Year Concert.

National School Opinion Survey

As part of a school's accountability with the department of education we are required to complete opinion surveys with our staff, parents and students (upper primary) every two years.

The purpose of these surveys is to provide valuable feedback into how the school is operating. The data collected is extremely valuable and will be used to inform our school improvement plan. Next year we will start developing our next three year strategic plan so it is the perfect time for us to be collecting this data.

I urge as many parents as possible to complete the survey. Like with any data collection, the more responses we collect the more valid and useful the data will be.

The results of the survey are used by us as a school staff when developing our school improvement plan, with the School Board for their feedback and input into strategic planning and published for the school community via the Annual Report.

To complete the survey, please click on the link below. The survey is open until Friday the 4th November.

To say thank you to those that take the time to contribute to the survey we are running a raffle. Simply print off, or take a screenshot and print the last 'Thank You' page of the survey, write your name and a contact number and place in the box in the front office. The lucky winners of the raffle will receive a promo code for $100 off student Booklists for 2023 with our chosen supplier Wincs.

Your feedback is so important to us and we appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey. Link is below:

KINDY’S SPACE EXPLORERS

This term in kindy we are exploring the theme of “Outer Space”. We have been busy creating some wonderful pieces of art; dressing up as astronauts and playing in our space dramatic play area; reading some interesting and exciting fictional and non-fictional text; listening to stories in our virtual library and learning a little about what lies beyond the boundaries of our planet, Earth.

On Friday 23rd September, Byford Primary athletics competitors took part in our Byford Schools Sports Association Interschool Athletics Carnival for 2022.

All our Byford Primary students represented our school with pride, good sportsmanship and 100% effort.

Students competed in jumps, throws, long and short distance running track events and worked together with their peers in team games.

Congratulations to all our students for their best effort, full concentration and team comradery.

Well done to Byford Primary achieving fourth overall!

The Kelmscott Show was held on October 14th and 15th, and Byford Primary School participated in the Kelmscott Show Schools Display once again this year. Mrs Prosser and Ms Doncon were very pleased with the volume and variety of work provided by a number of classes. The work was a mixture of classwork and artwork which together formed a colourful, interesting and attractive display.

Our Kindergarten (from the Byford Community Kindy and Byford PS) and Pre-primary children spent a wonderful morning participating in their sports day at the end of Term 3. Despite a few light showers, they showed enthusiasm and a willingness to have a go, as they participated in a number of track and tabloid events throughout the morning. Well done to all!

Hi everyone and how are we traveling? We do carry some excess baggage at times, making life slightly harder. Could some of that baggage that we carry could be unforgiveness?

Forgiveness.jpg

Unforgiveness has been described as you drinking poison, but expecting the other person to die. Unforgiveness is a poison, but it rots you on the inside instead.

Forgiving others on the other hand is like taking medicine and you getting better. The other person doesn’t need to know. Forgiving helps you to heal and get better on the inside. It allows you to be happier and free.

With Christmas coming up ( yes I know, at least a drop punt away but sometimes it does take our minds some time to mull things over), if we forgive, it will help us to heal and that sounds like a pretty good gift to yourself. Food for thought.

Here’s to a lighter week with less baggage. Take care everyone and keep safe.

Year 6 Camp Fundraisers

Thank You BPS Families

Thank_you.PNG

The 2022 Year 6 Fundraising Committee would like to say a huge thank you to the Byford Primary School families for their support of our 2022 fundraisers.  We successfully raised a whopping $14,111 to go towards this year’s camp, heavily reducing camp fees for the year 6 families – so thank you!  And last, but not least, a massive thank you to the 2022 committee members who helped to fundraise this year.  Raising this amount of money would not have been possible without each and every one of you who helped out in your spare time with organising sausage sizzles, raffles, donations and fun events to help raise as much money as we could.  We smashed it this year!!

Crazy Dress Day - 28th October

Crazy_Dress.jfif

It was great to see so many students and staff dressed in crazy, wacky, mismatched outfits today. Thank you for your support.  All monies raised go towards the 2023 Year 6 Camp

Zooper Dooper Thursdays

Zooper_Dooper.jpg

Zooper Doopers are continually being sold on Thursdays for 50c each.  We’re always in need of Zooper Doopers to continue this fundraising venture and are very appreciative of donations.  If you can help, please drop Zooper Doopers to the senior block.

Containers for Change

Containers_for_Change.png

We’ve joined the Containers for Change team to raise money for the year 6 camp, whilst helping to make a real difference to the environment.  This will roll over to  the Year 6 Fundraising Committee every year.  Donation bins have been placed in the undercover, blue court and pre-primary areas for students to donate their used water/drink bottles, juice and milk boxes (please look out for the 10c icon on the side of the container).  If you wish to donate containers from your household, please quote our Scheme ID #C10425624 when you drop off your containers to the recycle drop-off points and the funds will automatically get deposited into our fundraising account.

Hat_Sun.png

A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year.  Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3.  Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.
