Dear Families and Friends,

Welcome to the first Newsletter for Term 2. I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the school community for your ongoing support during these challenging times. Term 2 is set to be a busy term and we have already kicked it off with our ANZAC Service, the Life Ed Van incursion and the Mother’s Day Stall and raffle last week. Thank you to the Year 6 Camp Fundraising Committee for organising the mother’s day events for us. Be sure to check out the important dates at the end of my message to see what is happening this term.

State Government Free RAT Program

The State Government and Department of Education have advised us that every student will be provided with 20 free RATs to support families and ensure schools are as safe as possible. These are currently being sent out to schools and I will advise you once our shipment has arrived. We have been informed that on the recommendation of WA Health and the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Association) RATS for primary aged students must be collected by a parent/guardian. Once received, we will notify you of our collection processes, points, days and times. In the meantime, we have a very small supply of RATs left and can assist families for any urgent matters, please contact the school if you are in this situation.

ANZAC_Pic_3.jpg

Byford Primary School held a school ANZAC Day Service on Friday 29th April. The service was led by our School Captains Aimee and Mia who did an outstanding job of explaining the importance of ANZAC day and acknowledging all of the service men and women who have fought for our freedom and safety over the years. Thank you to all of our student leaders for assisting on the day, and to our School Board Chairperson Mrs Charlton for laying a wreath alongside Aimee, Mia and Ms Harrington.

Lest we forget.

Byford Primary School is now taking enrolment applications for students entering Kindergarten and Pre-primary in 2023. Both Byford Primary School and Byford Community Kindergarten will be offering a Kindergarten program in 2023. When completing an application to enrol for Kindergarten, parents will be asked to nominate which program they wish to apply for.

Your child can only enrol in one of these programs.

Children born between July 1 2018 & June 30 2019 are eligible to apply for Public School Kindergarten.

Children born between July 1 2017 & June 30 2018 are eligible to apply for Public School Pre-primary.

 When making an application for enrolment, please provide a copy of;

  • Your child’s birth certificate
  • Passport and Visa Grant Notice (if born overseas)
  • Proof of residential address (e.g. utility bill, lease agreement);
  • AIR Immunisation History Statement (that is not more than 2 months old), and
  • Family Court Orders (if applicable)

What is the difference between a Community Kindergarten and a school-based Kindergarten? Please click here for details:

Remember, your child can only enrol in one of these programs.

To enrol for Kindergarten please click here:

Application forms are also available on our website https://byfordps.wa.edu.au/ or can be obtained from the Front Office.

Application forms for Pre-primary 2023 will be sent out to our current Kindergarten students.  Parents of children currently attending Kindergarten programs this year (2022) must apply at the school for Pre Primary placement in 2023 if you wish your child to continue attending Byford Primary School.  Please note, students residing outside our catchment area may still apply, however your application may not be successful.

Students in Pre-primary in 2022 will automatically roll over into Year 1 in 2023 and beyond. If your child will not be returning to Byford Primary School in 2023, please notify the School Office.

It should be noted that an application does not confirm placement for any child – selection criteria may apply. Application details will be used to assist the school in organising classes and placements for next year. Parents of children who are offered placement at Byford Primary School will be asked to complete formal enrolment details at that time. Unsuccessful applicants will be offered a place in a school as close to their residential location as possible or be referred to their local school in the case of Pre Primary students.

Applications required by Friday 22nd July 2022.

All applicants will be advised of their child’s placement during Term 3 this year. Enrolment applications can be made through the school office between the hours of 9.30am to 2:30pm.

Ms Carminators’ Room 7 hit the ground running this term and made a poster called “My Goals for this Term”. Students were to set themselves four goals for this term relevant to either school, or home, or both. They were then asked to draw their faces in the middle and decorate their goal posters to be on display in the class for this Term. Here are Room 7’s goal masterpieces.

HASS

In Room 13 we have been learning about ‘Life in Colonial Times’. We learned about the impact that European settlement has had on Indigenous Australians and our native Flora and Fauna. We have examined the effects land clearing, farming, logging and introduced species have had on the environment. We also learned about diets, clothing, housing, work, and children's lives in early colonial life as well as the colonial history timeline from 1788 to 1863.

Health

Our focus on Health has been how we Relate, Respect and Connect to each other. We looked at our identity and explored our Values, Beliefs and Behaviours and how they impact our identity. From this we made Identity Faces and ‘All About Me’ hoodie design on our brag book. We explored the influences that our family and friends have on our lives which was reinforced with the Life Ed Van Incursion. In Life Ed Van we learned about how to Relate, Respect and Connect each other online and in real life.

Hat_Sun.png

A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year.  Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3.  Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.

Newspower Australia Easter Colouring Competition

At the end of Term 1, Mrs Smith encouraged her class to enter the Newspower Australia Easter Colouring Competition. Congratulations to Aimee for winning the Byford Newspower store’s competition for the 8 – 12 category.
