Dear Families and Friends,

Welcome to the final Newsletter for the term. It is hard to believe that we have completed the first term of the school year already, it certainly has gone fast. Although a challenging term, I would like to congratulate our students and staff on a successful term one, we have been very pleased with the students’ attitudes towards learning and the work they have completed under some difficult circumstances.

 ANZAC Day

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions in place this term, Byford PS will be holding our ANZAC Ceremony in week one next term. Once confirmed, we will advise of the day and time, and whether we are able to hold it live or via video.

 NAPLAN Online 2022

NAPLAN is going ahead for our Year 3 and 5 students this year. The testing period is between Tuesday 10 May and Friday 20 May, weeks 3 and 4 of next term. All of the Year 5 assessments will be online, Year 3 Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy will be online, Writing will continue to be a paper test again this year. A detailed testing timetable will be advertised closer to the testing period.

Thank You P & C and Year 6 Camp Fundraising Committee

We would like to thank the P & C, and Year 6 Camp Fundraising Committee for putting on a few fun events for us in the last couple of weeks of term. It has been a difficult term with lots of restrictions in place, and changes to the playground. It was great to be able to have some fun with Sports Colours Day, Recess Treat Day, Footy Tipping, Icy Poles and the Easter Raffle to put a smile on our face. Thank you.

 Happy Holidays

Thank you to the students, staff and parents for all of your support and understanding this term. I feel very fortunate to have been working in such a wonderful school community during this challenging time. Like I am sure you all are, I am hoping that next term we will be coming out the other side of our COVID outbreak and school life can go back to what we are used to. Wishing everyone a wonderful Easter and holiday break, have fun and stay safe.

Harmony_Day.jpg

Monday 21st of March saw Byford Primary celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity by demonstrating inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. In Room 1 we reflected on what Harmony Day meant to us. We discussed what made us different such as our cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and physical features.  We also analysed the qualities we have in common. What we discovered was we are more alike than different. Our differences are limited; however, our similarities are limitless.

Room_1_Harmony_Day.JPG

This is what some of our Kindy children participated in for Harmony Day.

In Room 10 we looked at mosaic art found in Muslim Mosques and body decoration used in Indian (Hindu) customs.

In Room 6 we completed a belonging branch activity with a photo of ourselves surrounded by people from different cultures around the world, holding hands and an aboriginal design gum leaf to hang from our branch. We also did silhouette pictures to demonstrate that we all look the same if we look beyond the surface - with the quote 'It's not about your reflection, it's what you see beyond.

Hi everyone and how are you travelling? A Prime Minister of Australia once said, “Life wasn’t meant to be easy.” Covid seems to be making sure of that.

But I really like what Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “There is no such thing as a self-made person.” I believe in community and teamwork, a system to beat the system.

There is an old saying that there are seasons for everything. A time to plant, a time to reap. A time to laugh, a time to cry. With covid I feel like we are going through a season of testing. A good way to respond is to encourage each other, for this is but a season.

Chaplain_Chatter_Bees.png“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Fixing our gaze on better days and better things to come; let’s think and say encouraging things to one another. It really does help. You never know who’s day you make by speaking into their lives with gracious words.

Life might not be easy, but it sure can be faced and we can all be rewarded with sweet victories from taking on the challenges.

So how are you travelling? If the answer is not well, then reach out. Talk to someone. You are important and worth other people’s time. You are not alone. Food for thought.

Have a great week and ‘keep on keeping on.’

Sausage Sizzle

Sausage_Sizzle.png

The Year 6 Fundraising Committee will be running a Sausage Sizzle stall on Saturday, 9th April at the Armadale Bunnings store and would appreciate some extra helpers to help cook and serve sausages on the day.  We’re also chasing donations of sauce, napkins, soft drinks, etc. so if you can help in any way, it would be greatly appreciated.  For further information on roster timeslots or a list of supplies we’re needing to source, please leave your contact details with Tracy or Mindy (front office) and someone from the Fundraising Committee will be in contact with you.  If you’re unable to help out on the day but would like to show your support, why not pop down to the Armadale store and buy yourself a sausage-in-a-bun and a soft drink.

Hat_Sun.png

A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year.  Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3.  Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.
