COVID-19 Update
Our BPS COVID-19 response plan was posted to class dojo two weeks ago and can be located on the school website. The plan outlines processes and protocols we are implementing to ensure our school remains open and we can provide face-to-face learning for your children in a safe environment. A reminder that the two methods of communication we are using to share COVID-19 information are SMS and Class Dojo. If you are not receiving the information please let the school know so we can assist you.
BPS School Board
The Byford Primary School, School Board has two new parent positions to fill this year. The School Board is comprised of the School’s Principal, School Staff, and up to 10 elected Parent and Community representatives. The Parent, Community and Staff Representatives hold office for a period of two years from the time of their election. The role of the School Board is one of setting the long term future for the school and maintain oversight (not management) of the school’s operation. It is not about running the school – that is the job of the principal. It is about providing additional expertise to help the school achieve the best outcomes for the students. If you are interested in joining the BPS Board nomination forms can be collected from the front office or emailed out to interested parties. If you would like an emailed copy please request one via Byfrod.PS@education.wa.edu.au. Nominations close on 3pm Tuesday 22nd March.

In Room 2 we read "Winnie the Witch" by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul. We looked carefully at the detailed illustrations and created our own. Then we wrote a short description.

Hi everyone. Here we are, Week 6. Before you know it, it will be years later. But we must always remember that what we do today is always important. We never know what the ripple effect of today may have on tomorrow. Have you ever heard the saying ‘Fact is sometimes stranger than fiction.’?
Here’s a true story: In 1965, 4-year-old Roger Lausier waded into the ocean and off a ledge into deep water over his head. He tried to yell but the water began to choke him. At that instant Alice Blaise pulled him up. She had noticed the boy wander off, something the parents missed by being distracted for just one moment. Roger’s parents were grateful to Alice because they got their son back.
The family continued to vacation year after year at the same beach. Nine years later, when Roger was 13 years old, he had become a very good swimmer. One day that summer, Roger noticed a man out in the ocean who was struggling and yelling for help. Roger took his air raft and swam out to the man. Roger helped the man to lay across the raft and towed it back to shore. Only after the rescue did Roger discover the man’s identity; he was Alice Blaise’s husband. You never know how what you do today could come back to you tomorrow? Food for thought.
Have a great week and remember, everything you do does count.

A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year. Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3. Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.
