Dear Families and Friends,

Welcome to the first Newsletter for 2022. I have been incredibly pleased with how well the students and staff have jumped straight into the teaching and learning program with such enthusiasm. We are looking forward to a great year ahead, and we thank our entire school community for their support during the first couple of weeks of the school year.

COVID-19 Update

Thank you to our entire school community for your support again with adhering to the public health measures in place on our school site. As a school we have been working very hard to plan for what may be coming and following the advice of the Departments of Health and Education. A BPS COVID-19 response plan will be available to our school community next week outlining further processes and protocols we are implementing to ensure our school remains open and we can provide face-to-face learning for your children in a safe environment. Please keep an eye out for notes home and Dojo messages to ensure you are keeping up with the latest information.

 P & C

It was wonderful to see so many new faces at our AGM late last year, and at our first committee meeting last week. Don’t forget that our supportive and hard-working P & C are always looking for new members and new faces are welcome at each meeting. The P & C play a vital role in the school through running the Canteen and Uniform shop, in addition to the many fundraisers they organise and run through the year, providing essential resources back into the school. If you are interested in joining the P & C this year but are a little unsure, or would like to know more about what is involved, feel free to pop into the office to speak with me, or contact our P & C President Annette Stones at byfordprimarypandc@hotmail.com. Many hands make light work!

BPS School Board

The Byford Primary School, School Board will have one new parent position to fill this year. The School Board is comprised of the School’s Principal, School Staff, and up to 10 elected Parent and Community representatives. The Parent, Community and Staff Representatives hold office for a period of two years from the time of their election. The role of the School Board is one of setting the long term future for the school and maintain oversight (not management) of the school’s operation. It is not about running the school – that is the job of the Principal. It is about providing additional expertise to help the school achieve the best outcomes for the students. More information on the role of the School Board and nomination forms will be released in the coming weeks. Keep an eye out on Dojo for more information.

Friday 28 January 2022 (Term 1, prior to school starting)

Assemblies

You would have read in my previous COVID-19 communications that we are unable to hold whole school assemblies during Term 1. As a school we have been looking for innovative ways to continue with assemblies this term. This term we will be trialling live streaming of assemblies to our classrooms. The class performing the item, the merit award winners and school councillors will run the assembly as per normal (physically distanced) in the assembly area. The assembly will be live streamed to classrooms so our whole school can participate. We will record the assembly and then share it securely on Class Dojo so parents can view it. Next week we will trial this with our first assembly which is being run by our new Student Council for 2022. Keep your eye out for the link to view the assembly on Class Dojo.

Room 9 spent the first week reflecting on how we are all unique.  We designed a hoodie showing what our favourite things are.

Hi everyone and may the winds of good fortune blow your way, so that you may even be able to celebrate a small success.

I quite like this quote,

’Some people dream of worthy accomplishments, while others stay awake and do them.’ Unknown.

It is wonderful to celebrate an achievement. But to get there, the attitude, planning, effort and striving needs to come first. And yes, this doesn’t always guarantee success. But you never know if you don’t give it a go. Food for thought.

Have a great week, looking forward to the positives in life.

Hat_Sun.png

A ‘No Hat, Limited Outside Play’ policy is enforced at Byford Primary School all year.  Parents can assist us by reinforcing the need for protection from the sun by ensuring that students have a wide brim hat. Hats can be purchased through the school uniform shop next to Room 3.  Students who do not have a hat are instructed to play under sheltered areas such as the Undercover Area near the canteen. Caps are not acceptable as they do not provide adequate protection to the ears and back of the neck from the sun.
