New_Principal_Pic.jpg

Dear Families and Friends,

I wish to say hello to everyone in our school community as I begin my acting Principal tenure to the end of Term 3 whilst the process to appoint a permanent Principal is carried out in place of Sue Heath who has taken up the Principal position at Baldivis South (planning name), a new school to be opened in 2021. Congratulations and best wishes to Sue in her new appointment and I look forward to the opportunities ahead in meeting and working with you.

Thank you to those parents who have put your children into our care during ‘COVID19’. Our students have settled into the school routine really well. A big thank you to parents for following the ‘drop and kiss’ policy and to those parents who have picked up work packages and accessed students’ work online.

I wish to acknowledge the outstanding work undertaken by Staff and the leadership of Sue Doncon, Dav Way and Tania Hall; in navigating our way through these very different times from Term 1 and into Term 2.  It has been very pleasing to be able to welcome back to our school approximately 91% of our students so far and to those students working from home we look forward to welcoming you back to school very soon.

Maintenance Works

Over the last month we have been having a lot of maintenance work happening around the school. Room 11, 12 and the staff toilet near Room 5 have been upgraded, nearly all of our classrooms have been repainted and a majority have had carpets replaced.  We have had blinds installed in Rooms 6,7 and 8 and the windows along the staffroom corridor tinted. Room 4 has had some windows replaced.

Kindy & Pre-Primary - Applications for 2021

Byford Primary School is now taking enrolment applications for students entering Kindergarten and Pre Primary in 2021. Both Byford Primary School and Byford Community Kindergarten will be offering a Kindergarten program in 2021. When completing an application to enrol for Kindergarten, parents will be asked to nominate which program they wish to apply for.

Your child can only enrol in one of these programs.

Children born between July 1 2016 & June 30 2017 are eligible to apply for Public School Kindergarten.

Children born between July 1 2015 & June 30 2016 are eligible to apply for Public School Pre-Primary.

 When making an application for enrolment, please bring a copy of;

  • Your child’s birth certificate
  • Passport and Visa Grant Notice (if born overseas)
  • Proof of residential address (e.g. utility bill, lease agreement);
  • AIR Immunisation History Statement (that is not more than 2 months old), and
  • Family Court Orders (if applicable)

What is the difference between a Community Kindergarten and a school-based Kindergarten?  Please click here for details:

To enrol at Byford Community Kindergarten, Park Road, click here:

Application forms are also available on our website https://byfordps.wa.edu.au/ or can be obtained from the Front Office.

Application forms for Pre Primary 2021 will be sent out to our current Kindergarten students.  Parents of children currently attending Kindergarten programs this year (2020) must apply at the school for Pre Primary placement in 2021 if you wish your child to continue attending Byford Primary School.  Please note, students residing outside our catchment area may still apply, however your application may not be successful.

Students in Pre Primary in 2020 will automatically roll over into Year 1 in 2021 and beyond. If your child will not be returning to Byford Primary School in 2021, please notify the School Office.

It should be noted that an application does not confirm placement for any child – selection criteria may apply. Application details will be used to assist the school in organising classes and placements for next year. Parents of children who are offered placement at Byford Primary School will be asked to complete formal enrolment details at that time. Unsuccessful applicants will be offered a place in a school as close to their residential location as possible or be referred to their local school in the case of Pre Primary students.

 Applications required by Friday 24th July 2020.

All applicants will be advised of their child’s placement during Term 3 this year. Enrolment applications can be made through the school office between the hours of 9.30am to 2:30pm.

Tips for Fathers and Father-Figures

As part of The Fathering Project involvement with your school I will be including helpful tips and ideas for all fathers and father-figures. I hope these tips will help, inspire and encourage all fathers and father-figures to be the best that they can be, as all fathers and father-figures are critically important in every child’s life. Click here for Tip 33 – Getting Involved.

To ease the financial burden on families over the year, we encourage parents to make payments throughout the year, to be assigned to fees, excursions and swimming etc.  This can be as a regular weekly or fortnightly payment, or whenever you have some money available. See Jill Walker, in the front office to arrange this. Jill will be able to provide a breakdown of payments made, if required.

Bendigo Bank Raffle

For those who sold Bendigo Bank Raffle tickets, the raffle has been extended till the end of July and will be drawn in August.  I will let everyone know the exact date a bit closer to the time.  Due to certain restrictions we will not be selling any more raffle tickets at this point.  I will notify everyone if this changes. This now gives those who still have not returned their raffle books a chance to get them to the office and you will still be in the draw.  Thanks everyone for your support.
